I still haven't decided on the fate of Renethea's mother , but the idea of Renethea going to discuss a job with a client or get info from an informant and seeing her mother in the noble circles is just ough /pos

My group of thieves i've taken to calling Divisa X (as in the letter not the number). Based on @54625's world!

Last names are absolutely not set in stone (with the exception of Vallus' thats not changing o7). :D

I just want to know more about them in general, but I do not have any specific questions in mind, so could I have one fact (however big or small) about each of your divisa members that you haven't shared yet ?

(If all of them is too much pressure you can just answer for whoever you do have answers for) :D

Not set in stone but: For the twins i'm thinking about the idea that they would actually have different last names . Enthis wants Fratera . Of the two he is the most into the guild and the guild activities . He's good at it and it's where he places a lot of his self worth (doing good on the jobs means he's being helpful . He's contributing to the family business ) so he wants to take the name of the guild , the epithet that people have been calling them for years .

But Galicalla is much more individual than Enthis . Sure she enjoys the work but it's not her life's work . She would much prefer the name Masiisis , still alluding to them being 'the fratera twins' but being her own person within that outside of the guild and life she was born into and had no choice but to join .

And building off of that , I think that if they hadn't been born into the guild that Enthis would have ended up in there anyway , while Galicalla would have ended up doing a more respectable profession , if she had one at all . Maybe an informant would be as close as she got .

Renethea will go to shows or orators , listen to the stories and then go back home and write it down to the best of her ability . She is always on the look out for more paper and will use whatever scraps she can find to write with . Part of her is worried that if she doesn't practice continuously she'll forget , and it's one of the last things she has from her mother , her ability to write . I also think that one of her most prized possessions are any pieces of paper with her mother's handwriting from when she was first learning . She's tried very hard to copy her mother's handwriting , and most people would have a hard time telling the difference looking at them side by side , but Renethea can see the differences and it kills her .

Vallus has very very faint memories of when he lived as a noble . They're so faint he thinks of them as dreams he remembers really well or very vivid imaginings of what noble life would look like . If he somehow ever ended up in his family's estate he would be confused how familiar it feels but brush it off as a type of deja vu

I shared a lot of my Illinae facts when you asked about her before but an interesting ooc fact : Her last name was based around the goddess Frigg , being one of if not the most important and strongest female gods in norse mythology (though she (Illinae) doesn't reflect her domains of worship) . And the arrow symbol on her brawler gear is an allusion to the Māori Mangopare which symbolizes strength , termination , strong will , and fighting spirit ! Obviously doesn't have those meanings in Ulor but I thought the designs and meanings were cool .

Hi again hello I am back I have a question .

Is Renethea particularly religious? That last ask just got me thinking about it . The dominant religion of Ulor (Izubanism) is VERY anti magi, and there is even a god in the pantheon who is worshipped as a protector against the forces of magi. I also know religion and OCD can be a devastating combo so it got me curious .

Would she feel like worshipping and being super devout could protect her ? If so, is she obsessive about religious rituals as well? Or would she have some other reason to stray away from it?

(no worries if there's not enough info on the religion itself for you to fully know)

Honestly probably . Though the extent that she would worship would likely be influenced by her grandmother , who so far has been characterized as being so vehemently anti-magi that i could imagine that soon after her son (renethea's dad) was taken to Gresse she would have gotten very involved with the worship and rituals of this protector god . And of course bringing Renethea with her to help protect her from the possibility of being a magi (thinking she's doing the right thing to keep her granddaughter safe but it's quickly becoming abuse)

The only reason i could imagine her not worshiping with a congregation is if her grandmother mentioned to the church that Renethea was the daughter of a magi , and then after she died Renethea became more and more terrified that the church would be able to find her out or sense her or do something else so she stays away (even if it doesn't make sense since if they could do that , why wouldn't they have done that from the beginning)

But she would most likely do the rituals even if ^that scenario happens . Protecting herself from her magic getting out , protecting others from being hurt by it . Lots of symbols and trinkets , probably a small shrine in her room to be safe . Unsure how devout she would be if the above scenario doesn't happen , cause i think she would get in her own head about the idea of going to worship so much at the church would be suspicious to anyone who payed attention to her .

Even though Renethea mainly listens to stories to transcribe them, does she still end up enjoying them/appreciating them as their own thing too ? Like just as a form of entertainment as well as something to write down ? If so, does she have a favourite genre? (Comedy, tragedy, romance, myth, etc)

Oh for sure . I think it started as an interest in the stories and then became an outlet for her to write things down and practice with (with the culture around original stories being cheap , she wouldn't have the confidence to practice with making up her own stuff , and a journal is out of the question (what if someone who can read finds it))

I think myths would be her favorite , both as culture and life lessons , and she gets a sense of importance writing them down . Preserving them even if just for her .

I think Galicalla drags her to the cheesy romance stories when she can , and Renethea does enjoy those (and she enjoys sharing them with Galicalla) . And i think that when Galicalla eventually learns that Renethea is writing them down she asks her to read them to her .

But her ocd would always lead her to any stories with Magi . Making sure that she knows what magi can do so she can make sure she never does it . A compulsion to learn what she can about magi , so she can be a good person and not be a danger to others . Her grandmother is dead but the horror stories of their abilities are all Renethea has to get information on how she can further control herself to keep the people around her safe .

Can I know about renethea's backstory ? :D

:) For her we need to go back a bit further to her parents , at least in more detail than the other 4 .

Her mother , Helena , was the daughter of a noble family , and her father , Fantis , was one of their workers . She wanted to marry him but knew that he would NEVER be able to afford what her parents would ask for , so she convinced him to run from the home and live on the other side of the city where he was born . Fantis agreed and they made plans . Helena had gotten pregnant with her a bit before they left .

They weren't able get married right after running away , even with not needing to pay her parents he still didn't have enough to afford a wedding . They lived with his mother staying as low key as possible for about 7 years . In that time Renethea was born and Helena had begun to teach her to read and write . Fantis worked bringing in the money to make sure they were all fed , and did not get involved with the guild as much as he could help it .

Helena's family had been looking for them for several years , trying to find the servant boy that had "stolen" their daughter . They had turned to the guild not too long ago , and in addition to finding where they had been living also learned that Fantis' had been a magi in the guild , though he had died years ago on a job so it didn't matter that much anymore . Helena's family learned of this , and informed the guard .

When the guards arrived at the home Fantis wasn't there . Helena answered their questions as best she could , but they would say why they were there . Her father returned from the market and was placed under arrest for harboring of magi . He had no idea what they were referring to , which they obviously did not believe . In his panic of being taken away from his family he launched the kitchen table at the guards attempting to push the guards out of the home , in an obvious use of magic . Chaos consumed the house , 3 guards tackling Fantis to the ground as her mom tried to protect him . Renethea hid out of fright , lost in the commotion . As her parents were dragged from the home , her father injured but not dead and her mother in tears , Helena tried calling out for her , but Renethea didn't move . The guards were still here , restraining her mother , there was nothing either of them could do and she was scared , so she did nothing . Her mother continued to try to call out for her , tell her that they would come back , before the guard told her that Renethea had probably run out into the street in fear and they wouldn't see each other again anyways .

Renethea watched from her hiding spot as her parents were pulled from their home , the room a wreak from the chaos and her father's magic . Her grandmother had been out of the home when someone who saw the commotion on the street came to find her and told her what had happened . She came home to find Renethea , and began to raise her herself .

Renethea's grandmother bought into all of the magi propaganda and was disgusted that her son was a magi , one who harbored other magi no less . She would often talk to Renethea about what she would have done if she had known . Send him off to the hand ships when he was a kid . Save them all the trouble . She would often try to 'test' Renethea to make sure she wasn't a magi herself , but not knowing how to really 'check' meant that the tests could be anything . Growing up around this attitude during some of her most impressionable years led to Renethea developing severe OCD around possibly being a magi , doing anything she can to not trigger it and be sent away . Renethea continued to try to learn to read and write on her own , using the notes her mom left , but she couldn't get much farther and no one around knew how to help .

When she was 13 Renethea's grandmother died , she left the house to look for help having no idea what to do , and bumped into someone offering to help , and a place to stay after everything was dealt with . Renethea accepted and was brought into the guild under Illinae's wing .

She's been in the guild for 8 years now but still doesn't open up much , terrified to learn what people would do if she was a magi , trying not to get too close in case she is a magi and gets sent to the hand ships .

Fantis obviously went to Gresse though the hand ships , but Renethea has no idea what happened to her mother . In her mind she is either in jail for not giving up her father , or maybe she went with him . But there might be another option that she was given back to her family and is still in Ulor .

hello I hava oc question I was pondering :>

what would renethea's response/treatment of a person other than herself being magi be ? cause obviously she wants the absolute least to be that herself I can only assume she probably wouldn't have the most charitable views on OTHER magi but maybe I'm wrong ? Would she be slightly more sympathetic because of her father ? Would her OCD and/or her grandmothers whole bullshit make her scared she could "catch it" even though she can't? I'm curious :D

If someone else told Renethea that they were a magi she would be scared of them . Any relationship would likely deteriorate and become passing glances whenever they passed each other .

She is too worried about guards or the sailors on the hand ships being able 'sense' that she's a magi to report them but it will be something else she would compulsively think about . What would be every possible out come of her reporting them , every word exchanged , every step taken to get there and back . Surely there must be an 'ideal' situation here , one where she is safe , they are sent to the place they belong , and she doesn't have the chance to go along with them . Her need to think of every outcome would be what saves the magi from being reported .

She is sympathetic to magi because of her father to some extent , she was 7 , she does have mostly good memories of him , but the last one being him casting magic and being drug away , and the YEARS of things her grandmother told her afterwards have been clashing in her mind for most of her adolescence . She struggles with thinking about her father being a bad person because of the magic , but the stories of the things magi can do with training and knowledge are always just behind that .

If galicalla hadn't been born (and thus forced) into the guild life , what kind of profession could you see her having had instead ? (or even is there anything specific she wishes she could do?)

I imagine she would have enjoyed crafting . Creating beautiful things as ornamentation rather than practicality . She enjoys being feminine and does value appearance , so getting to work in a trade that makes beautiful things that can elevate a persons perceived beauty would be something she would have found very fulfilling . Whether that be clothing , jewelry , or something similar .

She would probably wear more jewelry in the guild if she could , but it's impractical for the work they do , so hair extensions with gold ornaments is what she allows herself for day to day wear (though she could probably have a few extra things that i just didn't put on the art)
