Can I know about renethea's backstory ? :D

:) For her we need to go back a bit further to her parents , at least in more detail than the other 4 .

Her mother , Helena , was the daughter of a noble family , and her father , Fantis , was one of their workers . She wanted to marry him but knew that he would NEVER be able to afford what her parents would ask for , so she convinced him to run from the home and live on the other side of the city where he was born . Fantis agreed and they made plans . Helena had gotten pregnant with her a bit before they left .

They weren't able get married right after running away , even with not needing to pay her parents he still didn't have enough to afford a wedding . They lived with his mother staying as low key as possible for about 7 years . In that time Renethea was born and Helena had begun to teach her to read and write . Fantis worked bringing in the money to make sure they were all fed , and did not get involved with the guild as much as he could help it .

Helena's family had been looking for them for several years , trying to find the servant boy that had "stolen" their daughter . They had turned to the guild not too long ago , and in addition to finding where they had been living also learned that Fantis' had been a magi in the guild , though he had died years ago on a job so it didn't matter that much anymore . Helena's family learned of this , and informed the guard .

When the guards arrived at the home Fantis wasn't there . Helena answered their questions as best she could , but they would say why they were there . Her father returned from the market and was placed under arrest for harboring of magi . He had no idea what they were referring to , which they obviously did not believe . In his panic of being taken away from his family he launched the kitchen table at the guards attempting to push the guards out of the home , in an obvious use of magic . Chaos consumed the house , 3 guards tackling Fantis to the ground as her mom tried to protect him . Renethea hid out of fright , lost in the commotion . As her parents were dragged from the home , her father injured but not dead and her mother in tears , Helena tried calling out for her , but Renethea didn't move . The guards were still here , restraining her mother , there was nothing either of them could do and she was scared , so she did nothing . Her mother continued to try to call out for her , tell her that they would come back , before the guard told her that Renethea had probably run out into the street in fear and they wouldn't see each other again anyways .

Renethea watched from her hiding spot as her parents were pulled from their home , the room a wreak from the chaos and her father's magic . Her grandmother had been out of the home when someone who saw the commotion on the street came to find her and told her what had happened . She came home to find Renethea , and began to raise her herself .

Renethea's grandmother bought into all of the magi propaganda and was disgusted that her son was a magi , one who harbored other magi no less . She would often talk to Renethea about what she would have done if she had known . Send him off to the hand ships when he was a kid . Save them all the trouble . She would often try to 'test' Renethea to make sure she wasn't a magi herself , but not knowing how to really 'check' meant that the tests could be anything . Growing up around this attitude during some of her most impressionable years led to Renethea developing severe OCD around possibly being a magi , doing anything she can to not trigger it and be sent away . Renethea continued to try to learn to read and write on her own , using the notes her mom left , but she couldn't get much farther and no one around knew how to help .

When she was 13 Renethea's grandmother died , she left the house to look for help having no idea what to do , and bumped into someone offering to help , and a place to stay after everything was dealt with . Renethea accepted and was brought into the guild under Illinae's wing .

She's been in the guild for 8 years now but still doesn't open up much , terrified to learn what people would do if she was a magi , trying not to get too close in case she is a magi and gets sent to the hand ships .

Fantis obviously went to Gresse though the hand ships , but Renethea has no idea what happened to her mother . In her mind she is either in jail for not giving up her father , or maybe she went with him . But there might be another option that she was given back to her family and is still in Ulor .

Decided to make this it's own post, because explaining it, and the things that happened because of it, is the biggest part of their story :)

Juniper and Asin are characters in my current dnd game. Juniper is my player character and Asin is their "positive contact" from character creation.

The two of them were incredibly close for two decades, becoming friends as teenagers to saving up money to buy their own ship, have their own crew and run their own transport ship. Their primary recipient was a scientist named Dr. Viragald, he was known for experimenting newly emerging Magitech. He was a very entitled and self important man. Incredibly power hungry and would often fine the ship captains for very small infractions, or simply lie, to not pay them what they were owed.

Juniper was in the middle of a large shipment when she learned of just how much the components she was shipping could be worth if sold to criminals and pirates. Fed up with Dr. Viragald's exploitative practices, Juniper and Asin convinced their crew to leave their course and sell the parts for a higher profit, officially beginning their life as pirates.

For the next 10 years Juniper and Asin built Port Zihophli on what would come to be known as Pirate Cove. A sanctuary for pirates where a truce was declared upon docking as well as assisting those you needed help with ship repairs and the like. Having established the port Juniper became known as the Pirate Lord, a kind of ruler and decision maker within the port. After spending the last several years helping establish the port itself, Juniper and Asin finally had a moment to build the home they wanted within the port. Things were nearly complete when a newer pirate brought Juniper of an old map with a strange poem on the back leading to a treasure of some kind. Talking with Asin the two agreed to have Asin stay back and make sure the house was completed while Juniper went in search of this treasure.

She set out a week later and sailed as far as she could before needing to drop anchor for the night since the ship was too big to go further. As she was getting ready for bed, just having taken off her jacket, she was stabbed from behind, assassinated by someone she couldn't see.

After Juniper goes missing Asin is devastated and in denial, sending hundreds of search crews and spending much of the port's money looking for her. In her absence Asin became the second Pirate Lord, maintaining the port for when Juniper returned. A year after her disappearance, Asin was contacted by The Ascendents, the gods of the world, to become a gate-keeper. A kind of seal to keep another god imprisoned in the center of the world, granting the gate-keeper immortality (to an extent). Asin excepted, seeing this as an opportunity to have more time to find Juniper.

Not long after this Asin is kidnapped by an upcoming pirate named Bastion Bones, and brought to Dr. Viragald's Island. He beings experimenting with Asin's newly immortal state, and though he doesn't know why they are immortal, is able to reverse engineer the spell, using Asin as a kind of human battery, for his own immortality, that he extends to Bastion Bones and his two closest companions.

This continues for 400 years, Asin slowly becoming weaker, having been reduced to nothing but a battery, though still holding out some kind of hope that Juniper would return and find them.

As time passes the trapped god's followers are able to assist her in regaining some hold on the flow of magic, causing it to be disrupted. The Ascendants decide to use some of their strength to revive heroes of the past to help regain control of magic.

So to answer the question: Their home no longer exists because it's been 400 years :D The world and society they know simply no longer exists. The only person either of them know from their time (that they hold in a positive regard) is the other. Even the rest of their party is historical by their standards.

hello I hava oc question I was pondering :>

what would renethea's response/treatment of a person other than herself being magi be ? cause obviously she wants the absolute least to be that herself I can only assume she probably wouldn't have the most charitable views on OTHER magi but maybe I'm wrong ? Would she be slightly more sympathetic because of her father ? Would her OCD and/or her grandmothers whole bullshit make her scared she could "catch it" even though she can't? I'm curious :D

If someone else told Renethea that they were a magi she would be scared of them . Any relationship would likely deteriorate and become passing glances whenever they passed each other .

She is too worried about guards or the sailors on the hand ships being able 'sense' that she's a magi to report them but it will be something else she would compulsively think about . What would be every possible out come of her reporting them , every word exchanged , every step taken to get there and back . Surely there must be an 'ideal' situation here , one where she is safe , they are sent to the place they belong , and she doesn't have the chance to go along with them . Her need to think of every outcome would be what saves the magi from being reported .

She is sympathetic to magi because of her father to some extent , she was 7 , she does have mostly good memories of him , but the last one being him casting magic and being drug away , and the YEARS of things her grandmother told her afterwards have been clashing in her mind for most of her adolescence . She struggles with thinking about her father being a bad person because of the magic , but the stories of the things magi can do with training and knowledge are always just behind that .
