DIY Poo Pourri
So I had a reader send me a video of a cheery british woman whp pleasantly discusses the embarrassing nature of poo and the unpleasant smell it leaves, this company gives the solution off poo potpourri spray. Simply spray in the bowl and then do your “business” as usual.
At first I thought oh she is so funny, then I googled the product for a 1 oz bottle one will pay 7 dollars and for the extra large spray bottle for those wonderful college dorms a 8 oz bottle will run a mum 25 dollars! This price is ridiculous! So as my wonderful reader begged for a solution of to my chemical lab I go, Igor grab my lab coat and stop drooling on the floor. It is so hard to find good help these days!
So the idea behind the stinky spray is a great one, As I looked around the site and did some digging I realized how brilliant they were. Essential oils often are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial so using essential oils is a great idea to also clean the bowl as well as the scent trapper. What a bonus, great smell and less work for me!
My mixtures were a 10 drops each to 8 oz of water. Some of them I would use a little more or a little less as I started to give them away as gifts. One of my readers stated that she used 1 tsp of rubbing alcohol to her bottle, although I don’t see what it would do to help the potion- it cant hinder so if you like that added by all means. Now here is a trick that I learned, do not add the oils to the bottle rather grab a glass shot glass pour a little water into the glass then add the oils. Once you have the smell you like (and yes at this point it will be strong but remember it will mute down a little when you add more water) add the concoction to the bottle of water. Make sure you use a bottle a little bigger than the 8 oz of water if your making one bottle-common sense fine print 8 oz of water plus essential oils make more than 8 oz of fluid and therefore one will need a 9 oz bottle, your laughing I may have made this move. Once you stop laughing and have decided not to question my madness too much, make sure you label your bottle. The rule of thumb is about 3-6 sprays into bowl before poo. Some swear by using only glass bottles, but I have used plastic and its been fine…so use your own judgment.
If you’re really advantageous make multiple batches pour into multiple 1 oz spray bottles and place in a basket with other 1 oz bottle of different flavours to allow your guests to spray their favourite scent and have a little fun. Of course common sense fine print a child will go mad crazy spraying the different smells and making their own concoction and it will be crazy so make sure to keep them high enough from those precious fingers.
