Week 8 - Architype

Today we had the search the buildings of RMIT and find letters. In groups we moved around the campus photographing different objects and buildings to make recognisable letters. Below are some of the letter we found...

Week 7A - Shape Typography

Today, we were grouped and given different shapes. We were asked to create a type face from the shapes. We encountered issues with representing letters with very distinct shapes and having enough shapes to make the alphabet. Our design was very unique and geometric. 

Next, we were given a few squares to integrate into our design. The design began to be more abstract. 

We then traded more triangles for squares and the results were the most abstract and unique.

Week 5 - Water Typography

Today, we were given the task of creating type from water outside in the sun. The challenge was creating the all the words before the sun evaporated it. We began by painting the water onto a wall...

The paintbrushes allowed for a lot of control, but dried too quickly. After a few more attempts which included using multiple people at once we decide to try something completely different. We used a water bottle to spray the water on the wall. This was done by a single person and in script to make it more efficient. 

This attempt proved to be our most successful and the dripping adds a nice visual effect.

‘Hello, My Question Is...’ - Trials

After deciding to use food/drink to make my typography, I began to trial making the word ‘why’ with what I could find in my kitchen. 

I found some watermelon in the fridge and assembled the word ‘why’. I really like the bright colours, but the material does not relate to my question as well as it could. 

I moved onto pasta, which has nice detail and variation, but again I am not feeling a strong enough connection to my question. 

I am really looking for food/drink that is commonly used. I came up with the ideas of bread, water, coffee, tea and meat. I began to trial ‘painting’ with a tea bag. I was really happy with the results and began to work on creating the full question...
