Diz Undone X Tom Caruana - Don't Stop [Audio]
Following the success of “Normal“, Diz Undone (f.k.a. Dizraeli) returns with “Don’t Stop“, the second single from his upcoming album, Love and Rage. Produced by the legendary Tom Caruana, the track is a “filthy boombap” assault on the toxic influence of the billionaire class. Diz swaps his signature style for an absurdist exploration of modern power dynamics. From a “smarmy billionaire” drawl to…
The next episode of Carmina’s Cantata is out, featuring Dizraeli – cited by many as an inspiration when it comes to combining spoken word and music throughout this series. Always creating and evolving, find out more about what Dizraeli is up to at the moment and visions of what success and sustainability looks like in the future. It’s available to listen to on Spotify and all the usual platforms (scroll down for the link on my Beacons in bio). Dizraeli returns with an electrifying new album, and a vital voice in the conversation about mental health.
MC Dizraeli’s ‘The Unmaster’: A Review
Yesterday we had the privilege of attending the debut night of MC Dizraeli’s new multimedia performance piece, ‘The Unmaster’. Focusing on mental health, internal struggle and what it means to be a man, ‘The Unmaster’ is a deeply visceral and vulnerable piece of interactive theatre.
As other reviewers have already commented, Dizraeli’s performance is phenomenal, ranging from fierce pride to quivering grotesquery to tearful heartbreak, often in the space of seconds. Dizraeli takes his audience on a powerful and tumultuous journey through his own psyche whilst exploring the rigid and contradictory laws and expectations that society places upon men.
Through flashing propeller blades and the scenes of a busy London underground, the piece ties together various songs from the Eat My Camera EP and the upcoming Unmaster album in ways that occasionally feel forced but nonetheless utterly coherent.
This is not the too-familiar ‘let’s take an ego trip through my personal issues’ poetry performance, this is a raw and evocative piece which at points hits home a little too hard for comfort. The revolting physicality of the reviled ‘Timothy’ (the endlessly greedy ego) and his hulking twin, the internal critic, is juxtaposed beside clearheaded and compassionate emotional truth and a resounding sense that all are truly welcome on this stage. It is the bravery and versatility of the performer in this vivid and tender evisceration of self that raises this performance to the sublime.
As a performance, this is a thoroughly compelling and thought-provoking piece, both relatable and fresh, which sparks inspiration not just to create but to be a part of the change in the way we speak about and view mental health, gender and the boundaries of what is considered ‘socially acceptable’.
We highly recommend seeing 'The Unmaster’ when it comes to a theatre you can access. Tour dates can be found on MC Dizraeli’s website. #dizraeli #theunmaster #poetry #poem #performance #poet #theatre #mentalhealth #masculinity #visceral #5stars (at Boscombe) https://www.instagram.com/p/Boge4dQFUql/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=o5ixelx9yts6
