Thankfully, powerful and more sophisticated apps are being developed everyday; and companies like Pioneer are releasing hardware to work in conjunction with them. Among these are the grandiose, such as “djay for iPad v1.5.1 app” which is designed to work with all-in-one hardware solutions like the Numark iDJ pro. The announcement of Pioneer’s XDJ-AERO and their recent teaser on the upcoming “Evolution” has only cemented the fact that their Rekordbox DVS is here to stay. Mark, over at DJworx had a chance to look at the mobile version of the Rekordbox app and had a few things (good and bad) to say about it. Oddly enough, it has been ported for the Android, but is only capable for iOS users using the iPhone. With that said, the interface makes good use of the limited real estate of the iPhone screen. The app gives you the ability to perform basic functions such as importing, loading, and preparing tracks – and then allows you to send them back and forth between your computer and mobile device. The implication of its wireless ability means that multiple devices can connect with one piece of hardware. Algoriddim’s djay app for iOS is one of the most popular and widely used apps for digital DJs, but it isn’t the only one out there. While djay focuses on the simplicity of layout giving you two turntables and a crossfader as your main interface, DJ Player has always been more about button mashing and triggered actions.
DJ Player has followed suit and upgraded their app to work with the iOS 6 udpate. Most of the improvements involve ease of use – mainly for importing mapping files and a lower latency response to button presses.
