Since the game doesn’t explain much about DJ Cyber I wanted to create headcanons on his past, but mainly based on the story itself and also just yap about DJ Cyber cuz he’s so underrated.
(VERY LONG)
1. Probably the most important is the way the Big 3 has been formed. I’ve always felt like since Faux isn’t well liked by DJ Cyber and Vinyl, it’s assumed that he met them very recently. I headcanon that DJ Cyber knew Felix for awhile, then met Vinyl and only close to the time when Felix decided to go All city the 3 of them met Faux. To me, Vinyl, DJ Cyber and Felix were more of a friend group that the big 3 actually got to be. At least in the beginning.
I hc that Faux must be the youngest (in his early 20s) then there’s DJ Cyber (mid - late 20s) and then Felix (late 20s - early 30s). Vinyl is also around DJ Cyber’s age.
Not based on anything but to me, DJ Cyber met Felix when he was studying in university when he was still a somewhat early writer. Then they met Vinyl a few years later and finally Faux, a year or 2 before the events of the game. Cyber and Felix are the closest due to knowing each other the longest. And encouraging each other to be writers. I headcanon that Felix was one of the first writer friends DJ Cyber had or the one that supported him the most, even looking up to him in a way.
I wish I could talk about Vinyl and Cyber’s relationship but I can’t think of much since it wasn’t elaborated on in the game, but I think they have a lot of synergy. They both seem pretty intelligent, both knowing that Red was Felix all along and trying to trick him to make him remember his past. And both catching on Faux’s intentions. I think they have some similarities personality wise.
I think DJ Cyber tried to respect Faux in the beginning as a fellow writer, but the police framing Cyber and Felix for his graffiti made him distrustful. I know they were friends but I don’t think DJ Cyber didn’t catch on that Faux might have had something to do with him having a clean record no matter the situation and it’s what made him trust Faux less. Faux seems to have joined the big 3 later and probably really wanted to be seen as equal by his friends (which is why Felix leaving them really hurt him) and his fear of not being accepted by others but his insecurity and usage of his status as the kid of a police officer is what doomed their relationship from the start. It wasn’t sincere. I could talk more about Faux here but this post isn’t about him.
2.I found Cyber’s obsession with the brain pretty interesting. The fact that he could build or at least operate a machine that simulates minds also tells me a lot about his intelligence. I headcanon that before the rise or breakthroughs in cyberhead development (a somewhat semi recent event in my opinion) DJ Cyber used to study neuroscience. And after the inventions of cyberheads, it gave him a cause to start studying engineering on the side. I doubt DJ Cyber could get involved with bigger research since as a writer, him being involved with government affairs would be an issue (?). So the fact that he has a machine that can connect to the brains that he might’ve built himself is really impressive. And I think the existence of cyberheads and DJ Cyber’s obsession with brains are very correlated.
Also kinda not related but I hc DJ Cyber being a nerdy person when he was younger/ as a kid. You can’t tell me that a guy that’s so into science wasn’t a nerd once.
Also I don’t remember if it’s my memory but I think I remember someone mentioning that DJ Cyber used to cut off heads of others to study their brains (not just Faux) so.. yeah he would not be let inside a government lab 😭
3. Personality wise, Cyber seems to be the type of person to put up a grand and responsible persona but he’s a very caring person underneath. I don’t see a lot of people talk about the fact that DJ Cyber could have easily explained that Faux was the one who killed Felix, but instead kept it a secret to possibly not cause any panic between other crews. Even if it means that the public eye will suspect him in his death. He still put responsibility and others first. He cared so much about Felix that he kept his mask in his honour, killed Faux by decapitating him (the same way Felix died) and started enforcing code of the street even harsher, so that deaths will not happen again. He even promised to never use his vinyls to kill people again, despite researching brains after what happened to Felix. He’s a very caring person.
Also I find the fact that he’s still pretty goofy despite his persona pretty funny. I remember seeing Yapico talk about his voice lines and how despite Cyber consciously trying to act serious he still slips up when he’s having fun. Also that’s the guy that tries to intimidate others with his evil laughter 😭😭 like you can’t tell me he’s not having fun messing with others.
4. Also can I talk about the fact that DJ cyber isn’t that great at tricking. Based on his mission, his milestone is 1 million points, which seems a lot, but in comparison to other boss missions, his score is the lowest especially in comparison on the amount of time you’re given. He did state that he hasn’t had the time to practice tricks after the incident. So I guess it could be interpreted as him being good at skating before the events of the game and having to re learn his tricks again, or him not really being good at tricks before and trying something new after main story. Either way I think it’s cool.
5. Also unrelated, but can I talk about how cool DJ Cyber’s design is. Like his white long coat that is still reminiscent of futuristic fashion and him being a scientist in a way give off Mad Scientist vibes, especially when you pair it with his mask. It’s such a smart design choice while keeping it fashionable.
I wish I could have fit in stuff about him being a DJ but I lowkey can’t say much. I just think it’s cool. Maybe it’s something he pursued as he became a writer
Anyway I think I’m done talking about what I like about him. He’s really cool but I wish we knew more about him😭 still wish I had more to talk about him but there really isn’t much information on him💔💔

But yeah bear in mind the 1st and 2nd images arent acc his winter fits, I just like his design and felt like making an alternative to felix's mask.. if that makes sense?
