NOVEMBER 1ST, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DJ HAM!
DJ Ham is a secondary character that shows up in the movies and the Ham-Ham Games video game. He is, as his name implies, a DJ that sings and dances and is always wearing a smug smile and a cool attitude.
He was first introduced on the first Hamtaro movie, as an announcer and (of course) DJ at Ham-Ham Land.
DJ Ham wears a different outfit on each movie (albeit in the first movie and the games he is nude), but he always sports a red tie. in each movie, he covers his head with some kind of hat. His hair is orange and looks like dreadlocks, giving him a “reggae” look. He also has some stubble above the mouth and what seem to be crow’s feet under the eyes, making him older than most Ham-Hams. When he wears clothes, they are all super big and loose, noticeable specially around the sleeves. Lastly, most of the time he has his eyes closed, much like Howdy, albeit he opens his eyes at least once during the first movie, showing circular eyes different than most of the other hamsters styled in the series.
DJ Ham is based on a Japanese rapper that dubs him, “Banana Ice”. His real name is Harumi Kudo. He was popular on the 90s and something that is worth mentioning is that not only does he style a good mustache and beard, but he also had some controversy going on regarding his hate to “b-boys”, Japanese rappers that grow dreadlocks as well as tan themselves to make them look more black. That directly conflicts with his hamsona, since he has dreadlocks as well and makes you think why would he accept such a design.
His birthday in the 1st of November is probably related to his voice actor’s birthday.
DJ Ham’s Japanese name is the same as his English name. However, it is to note that since no movie was released on the west and he does not show up on the OVAs, the only source of English name we have for him is the Ham-Ham Games video game.
Relationships
DJ Ham does not appear to have any known relationships or love interests.
Episodes
DJ Ham appears in all the Hamtaro movies, but his appearance is usually as a side narrator or as a short intermission.
We wish him a Happy Birthday!
