June 6th, Happy Birthday Stan!
Stan is part of the main Ham-Hams, and he takes part in quite a lot of episodes. He is a domestic hamster that lives with his owner, Noel, whom Hillary, Sandy’s owner, gifted him.
Stan is average sized and his back and forehead are orange, while his front is a creamy color.. He sports a few brown stripped lines which resembles a tiger. He is sometimes, especially in early episodes, seen with a skateboard, and usually maracas which he uses to dance around.
He is a very pompous boy, acting cool through most situations, but sometimes can let his cheerful side show up and yell “yay” plenty of times. He is skilled at skateboarding and likes to flirt with pretty much any girl at sight. Even though he likes to fool around, he can be serious and show that he has a good heart when it matters.
Stan happens to have a twin sister, Sandy, from whom he was separated at a young age. At first, she only remembers him for being a gentle hamster that sang her a lullaby, but later on, the Ham-Hams decide to search for him and finds him. From then on, Stan hangs out with the Ham-Hams both to see his sister more often but, more importantly, to try to score with some of the girls in the club.
His Japanese name is Torahamu-kun, which literally means “tiger ham”. The reason seems to be quite obvious, don’t you think? It is worth noting that the “-kun” here refers to him as a boy. This is emphasized to separate him from his sister, whose name is the same.
Stan’s relation with his sister could extend for a whole section. But to make it short, Sandy and Stan are usually depicted as the “comedy duo” where one has to restrain the other from doing obnoxious things. Sandy being the “mature” of the two, and using her trusty ribbon to snatch her brother and make sure he doesn’t bother anyone. However, Sandy truly looks up to his brother, which she calls Onii-chan in Japanese, meaning “Big Brother”. Stan, on the other hand, refers to her as Imouto, which means “Little sister”. In some episodes, she seems to be very dependable of him, which is an attitude unseen in other episodes.
Sandy and Stan share a song called Kuru kuru or “Twirling Whirling”, which is the lullaby that Stan sang to her when they were little.
Stan’s relationship status can be boiled down to “if a girl exists, he has a crush on her”. Naturally, within standards for a common guy.
He is persistent in his attempts to court the girls at the Ham-Ham Club, Bijou and Pashmina, although he seems to favor the later the most. For one desperate measure he has been seen trying to grab Penelope’s attention to no avail, like when he didn’t found anyone that would give him a present for Valentine’s Day.
Stan’s main crush and love interest through the series is Flora, the nurse that lives with Dr. Lion. Instead of just random flirts, he seems to be determined to make her fall in love with him, as in if he has decided to drop his Casanova shenanigans and settle down with her. Flora, at first, is clearly not interested to the point she doesn’t even notice his attempts; but later on we can say that there’s a bit of interest.
In a single episode, and probably without much consequences for later development, Stan and Lapis go out on a date. Being both big siblings to a little sister, they might connect easier than other hamsters. However, in the end, Lapis leaves and Stan is left puzzled but quickly overcomes it, probably being used to it.
