All the melanges with electronica differ from one another by their connection to their sonic base. I mean, illbient is similar to trip hop, though I'm unsure how can the genre be seen in relation to the machine music. Sure, the elements of electronica are present here always, yet something doesn't scream that in the way the entire thing does in, say, techno. Badawi, for instance, does seem like a shinier version of Muslimgauze – a discussion for another time should talk about him being one of the key ingredients of illbient – and his composition could only be possible with the electronic music tools. However, his tunes do not possess the same digital sheen as many of, say, trance players. Yes, illbient seems like another version of being more organic than a lot of electronic music.
