A Djinn is Magical bound to their Bottle. Usually, when the wishing is done, they go right back.
Jaskier was the Dijnn that Geralt fished out of the lake
Now, Geralt broke the bottle. Jaskier has no idea how to tell the witcher he’s magically bound to him… possibly forever even if Geralt makes all his wishes unless he’s bound to a new bottle somehow
okay so we’ve had djinn Jaskier, but what if Geralt made a badly worded wish - or maybe he still said “i just want some damn peace!” - and the djinn was like “aight. imma head out~”
and just. turns Jaskier into the djinn, and leaves with his newfound freedom
and suddenly Jaskier is a djinn with no idea how to use his powers, and still bound to Geralt with two more wishes to grant, and now they suddenly have a super powerful sorceress (Yennefer) trailing their asses after hearing about a witcher with a djinn and now wants to steal the djinn and wishes for her own agenda, and Geralt needs to get Jaskier to safety before Yennefer and other mages try to use and trap his bard-turned-djinn
just.
think about that
i was hit with this au idea very violently after looking at something completely unrelated and from a completely different fandom, so now you have to hear about it, too
tw: mildly horny but mostly fluffy (Jaskier is just really dedicated to the Aesthetic)

Geralt skittered back across the ground on his ass, trying to avoid the plume of blue smoke moving closer with every passing moment. He brought up his hand to cast Aard but it did very little against the foggy being. In a last ditch effort to keep himself safe he crossed his wrists in front of his face to shield it from any possible bursts of disfiguring or dangerous magic. “Stay back!”
“Why should I?” the smoky form asked, solidifying rather suddenly into the shape of a young man. The Witcher glanced between his fingers when he heard the bright, bell-like tenor and his eyes went wide in the face of such a powerful being. His medallion was practically singing against his skin. The stranger had eyes the same color as his smoky form, bright blue and beautiful, and they grew even closer as he leaned forward to observe Geralt. “You’re a fascinating little human, you know.”
“F-fascinating?”
“You look so pretty when you brood,” the djinn (because what else could the half-smoke creature possibly be?) asserted. Geralt lowered his hands slowly and moved up into a kneeling position, ready to stand and bolt at any moment. The djinn was grinning as he continued to babble, “I’ve been so bored for so long and then you showed up looking all sad and grumpy and handsome and I couldn’t help myself. I had to talk to you. Tell me, human, what are you known as among your kind?”
“Huh?”
The Witcher has not had great success with djinns in the past and he was growing more confused by the second.
The creature crossed his arms over his chest and Geralt finally noticed the skimpy, flashy way he was dressed. A pair of loose, flowing blue silk pants were cinched just below the djinn’s knees with bands of silver embroidery. His torso and arms were bare except for a few silver bracelets and a cuff around his left bicep. His fingers were littered with jeweled rings and his hair was swept artfully out of his face.
The djinn was...pretty. Geralt had the sudden, overwhelming (and terrifyingly primal) urge to put his hands on every inch of that lightly tanned skin. He wanted to touch. He wanted to claim Jaskier for some unfathomable and utterly un-Witchery reason. He shook his head to clear it and looked up dumbly.
“What is your name, mortal, or would you like to continue ogling me?”
“Geralt.”
Fuck. Shouldn’t have said that.
“Jaskier,” the other man grinned. The expression on the djinn’s face radiated contentment and joy; this creature was a free agent, then. “I think I’d like to travel with you, Geralt. Learn more about you. Watch you sulk.”
“S-sulk?”
“Yes. You seem to be the pouting type,” the djinn giggled. Geralt’s heart clenched frighteningly when he realized how much he liked the sound of Jaskier’s laughter. “What do you say, then? I can pay my way with magic, of course.”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
“...Alright.”
“Huzzah!” the creature crowed, a burst of energy thrusting him up into the air for a moment. He pulled the Witcher back to his feet and dusted him off with its long, thin fingers and gentle hands. Geralt couldn’t help but lean into the touch slightly.
He wasn’t sure if it was Jaskier’s magic or something else entirely, but this was a monster he didn’t want to lose from his company for some time yet.
“Jaskier,” the Witcher murmured. The djinn’s cornflower eyes met with Geralt’s and the Witcher felt his knees go week. It has to be the magic. No pull between people could ever be this strong this fast.
“Yes, Geralt?”
“Nothing. Sorry.”
The creature giggled again and Geralt ignored the butterflies loose in his stomach. He mounted up on Roach again and turned her towards the path. “I hope you can keep up, djinn.”
Jaskier was suddenly floating alongside Roach with little effort at all. “I’ll manage,” he winked. Geralt blushed and spent the next hour of the ride wondering why.
As a Djinn, Jaskier had once been nothing more than pure, rare energy. Then, one of his former Masters had wished for him to have a human body.
Now, Jaskier could almost feel human. Though still a Djinn, he remained bound to his bottle—a human-made prison that only deepened his awareness of the endless years he would spend trapped, waiting for someone new to find him.
Master after Master came and went. Some promised to use one of their wishes to free him, but none ever did. There was always something they wanted more.
For a time, Jaskier let himself believe Geralt was different. The witcher had kept him around longer than anyone else. Maybe, just maybe, Geralt would be the one to set him free.
But Geralt never did. In the end, he used his final wish to send Jaskier away.
When Jaskier next awoke from his bottle, he was shocked to see the one who had found him—Ciri, Geralt’s Child Surprise.
There was a time before the bottle when Jaskier glimpsed something powerful and free, though the memory of it has faded.
Once, he was a Djinn, passed from one Master to another until, eventually, he ended up at the bottom of a lake—forgotten—until Geralt found him.
Jaskier took a liking to the witcher, not just because Geralt promised to use one of his wishes to set him free. Then Yennefer came along, and though Jaskier never knew what Geralt's wish was, it somehow became easier to stay close to him.
But Geralt never intended to set Jaskier free. It wasn’t that he disliked him—far from it. Yet no one knew what Jaskier truly was, and it seemed safer to keep him in check. Geralt’s plan was simple: he would never use the final wish, leaving Jaskier bound to his bottle but never forcing him back inside.
So I was thinking about the episode of Charmed I Dream of Phoebe. There aren't too many spoilers for those who haven't seen the episode, but Phoebe gets transformed into a genie as part of the plot.
As a result, I began thinking of ideas for a fic
Basically instead of the Djinn just attacking Jaskier throat. Geralt accidentally curses Jaskier to become the next Djinn. The wish about blowing someone's head up doesn't get made. The conflict between Yennefer and Geralt still remains, however, and Geralt still wishes that their fates were linked. In order to ensure that Jaskier would never return to the Amphora, Geralt never made a third wish.
Then came the incident on the mountain. Instead of Geralt's words being just angry words, they are a bit more complex. The consequence of this is that it actually forces Jaskier to fulfill Geralt's 'Blessing'. This causes Jaskier to return to the amphora, which then vanishes.
Despite Geralt's efforts to find Jaskier, he finds it harder and harder to find him, as he has to protect Ciri. In spite of that, Geralt always keeps an ear to the ground and listens to rumours about Djinns.
In the meantime, Jaskier has been passed from one person to another. Being forced to make their wishes come true. Sometime, it's just the average people who are just looking for simple things such as more money or for their corps to do well in terms of their performance. The majority of the time, Jaskier ends up in the hands of mage's. In comparison to whose wishes are far more messed up. Over the course of Jaskier's time as a Djinn, he slowly starts to forget about his life as a Bard. Jaskier's amphora is found one day by Rience. The first thing Rience wants is for Jaskier to take him to Geralt and Ciri so they can portal straight into Kear Morhen.
Jaskier is rescued from Rience after a fight breaks out. Geralt is overjoyed to be reunited with Jaskier once again, but he quickly becomes frightened when he learns that Jaskier only remembers Geralt as one of his former masters. There is an effort to try and free Jaskier from his curse of being a Djinn by Yennefer and Vessimer. As Jaskier struggles to regain his memory in the meantime, everyone else tries to help him.
At some point a thought crossed Geralt's mind that he could just wishes for Jaskier memories. There is only one thing that he thinks about as well and that is wishing Jaskier would forget about the mountain and always want to be with Geralt regardless of what happens. Geralt feels guilty for having even just the slightest thought about this. In the end,
Jaskier and Geralt end up talking. This causes Geralt to confess that he loves Jaskier. This causes Jaskier to recall that he once loved a white-haired man. This finally brings back Jaskier's memories.
Unfortunately, there is no way to break Jaskier's curse, resulting in him remaining a Djinn for the rest of his life. Ciri finds a way to serve Jaskier's bond by forcing him back into the amphora after the master makes the tree wishes. In this way, Jaskier will be able to be completely free of the enslavement and yet still have the power he gained from being a Djinn.
