Frank Oz said, "In order to be a star performer, you have to have someone to play against." As a former track athlete, I am so used to mainly competing against the previous version of myself more than anything. At the conference track meet my senior year of college, all of the other high jumpers were out before the bar even got to my opening height. Was I "a star performer" by clearing my "never miss" opening height? I got the technical win, yes, but it's not like I quit after I cleared that first bar. I kept going--me by myself-- until I set a new conference meet record. Thoughts?
