MAR VISTA

“Born as a graffiti artists, trained as a designer, and let loose on to the world of advertising, my path has led me down some very interesting challenges.” Hard-working designer and artist DJ Neff says he has never been bored, working every day to produce work reflecting the rich variety of ‘moments’ in his life. “Some of these moments were amazing, some of them taught me some valuable lessons on what not to do ever again.” When not art directing work for an agency or working on his @MoreCanLove recycling program, Neff is probably busy painting colorful walls and bringing joy to the community around his studio in LA’s Mar Vista neighborhood, where you can find these birds and flowers on Venice Blvd near Wasatch Ave. @djn3ff

One of LA’s favorite homegrown street artists, Christina Angelina, aka Starfighter, has painted a series of successful collaborations with Ease One and Mar, as well as a couple of very high-profile works with Fin DAC and others. Having spent most of her life between Santa Monica and Venice Beach, Angelina recently added several collaborations with DJ Neff, prolific mural painter and creative director for nearby Mar Vista Art Department—including one piece the two worked on together in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami. In early 2016 Angelina and Neff painted this Mar Vista mural on Venice Blvd. wall in front of LAB Bicycles in the heart of a neighborhood being transformed by its quarterly ArtWalk, leading Angelina to comment that her neighboring hometown of Venice seems to have passed on the baton of support for small mom & pop businesses. @starfightera-blog @djn3ff @marvistaartwalk

NISSAN VERSA OOH

Further blurring the line between art and advertising, this Santa Monica Blvd. work in Hollywood was originally created for a Nissan Versa advertising campaign. Despite the reputation advertising projects sometimes have for being difficult, Neff—originally trained as a graphic designer—says this was a dream project where he got to do exactly what he loves. Collaborating with San Francisco artist Apexer, who added his unmistakable brightly colored abstract patterns, Neff jokes that the experience was also his “first national modeling campaign”—in the final advertising pieces a Nissan Versa was added at the bottom right of the image with an artist hanging out the back of the car painting this work. The model was apparently Neff. @djn3ff @apexer
