Something I desperately want to see in a potential next DMC game.
Say the twins finally come home. I want to see Dante get hugged. By everyone. I want to see him get hugged an patted and given pizza and tomato juice and a strawberry sundae? I want his whole ass living family to be there for him and show him the most affection he has ever dreamt of getting in his life.
I want to see Dante's "too cool for school" mask to crack, to drop. I want to see him start shedding tears and crying between "Nah, it's ok, I said it's ok-h-Hey, hey it's ok-I said I'm o-" and I want the man to sob out of pure elation that he is no longer alone, that he has his bro back, that his nephew and his nephew's lady are there. That his friends of many years, colleagues, comrades of the battles past are with him and love him.

I always get so sad whenever I see people talking shit about the Netflix DMC anime Q~Q
I get people had expectations, but it hurts how much they keep comparing it to the games when it's...well, it's own story variant? Like an AU!
I thought the internet liked AUs...
And before I get any potential comments, yes I played the games (recently, I posted my thoughts/reviews on here), yes I like the games (it's my current fixation, 4 is my favorite), and no, I don't care about why "it'd be better if x was x".
I think the anime is very fun, and I got super excited when I saw references and cameos from the games, like that one plant boss from 4! She's my favorite .w.
If you're wondering why this is posted, I just saw a teaser for season 2 and the comments were all talking shit about it, and it made me a little sad... People were saying "Vergil has too much emotion" WHEN IT WAS A SINGULAR LINE IN A SINGULAR SCENE in a 53 SECOND TEASER
I like the emotion! Robbie Daymond's a good voice actor, and even if it's not the same as the OG Vergil voices, I think it's a fun take :D
The one scene really gave off the impression of "brother who likes to fight his other brother" type of energy. At least, that's what I get from it.
It's not gonna BE like the original games because it's not TRYING to be that way. It's telling its OWN story in its own interpretation of characters and the world building. It's not any different from fanfictions, it just has a bigger budget and a lot of eyes on it, especially since it's connected to the company who made the games.
I don't know the entire creative process behind the series, I'm just going based off what I take on the whole thing. And no, I do not care if you hate it. You can hate whatever you want, but I think it's rather harmful to creators to keep comparing it to the originals, or comparing voice actors to other voice actors.
I mean, how would you feel if you were constantly compared to someone else who was viewed as "better" than you, or compared your work to something else that was mildly similar and "more popular" than what you made?
Ayup, I have played DMC5, and you know what time it is! Or not, but it's personal review time.
I had a lotta fun playing this game, it was a challenge to keep my hands off of it when it came to the times I needed to play D&D or plan for it, and has gotten in the way of my daily streak with Artfight, but that's A-Okay! I'll catch up. Maybe…hopefully. I at least plan to attack my friends once minimally B)
I will say, and I don't know if I've said it before and I apologize if I have, but it is SO strange how fast I became obsessed with this game. Seriously. It is so bad that trying to go a day without even TOUCHING the damn thing is agonizing. Physically.
WHY IS IT SO PAINFUL??? That's ridiculous. I'm over here, trying to do some artfight stuff for once, play D&D, and run D&D games for my friends, and my dumbass brain SCREAMS at me about the game and won't shut up until I touch it, and it affects my physically. Why does it affect me physically??? That sounds unrealistic and yet here it is, a video game harming me physically when I try to go a day without playing the damn thing.
I'm either drawing something DMC related or playing it, and if I'm doing neither, my body and brain attack me violently. It's so bad, and I feel alone despite having at least two friends who know and like the series QAQ
Spoilers ahead! Don't continue if you don't want spoilers! (some of this was written while still playing through story mode and most was written afterwards)
TLDR: I love all the characters, this game is SO FUN, Dante gave me some complications, and V PLEASE COME BACK I MISS YOU SM QAQ
Edit: DMC5's music is so good, it's tough to play more than a few missions per sitting, I gotta go listen to its music every now and then
I feel like I say this every time, but MY GODS IS THIS GAME SO FUN. I just wanna grab the game and just SIDGHUIGISUDG y'know?
The beginning was so funny to me, where Nico is smoking (love her character btw) and the game goes "we do not promote smoking" and from the looks of it, EVERY character besides Nico absolutely hates the smoke, that's so funny.
I'm a little sad that Devil Bringer was replaced with Devil Breaker for Nero, but the mechanics are still fun nonetheless. I did get the version where I got some of the DLC stuff, and I'll admit, the Mega Man one looks funky as hell and does take me out of the game sduighiusdgi. I do like that Nero's animations in cutscenes prioritize his left arm since, if you use up all your Breakers, it won't show up in the cutscene, which is pretty neat ngl.
That was written when I was still going through the game. Now that I've finished the main story, I LOVE THAT DEVIL BRINGER IS BACK OMG DEVIL BRINGER I MISSED YOU QAQ
Sad I didn't get to have too much time to use it, but hey, that's what replay-ability is for!
I cannot say this enough, but Nero is SUCH a good character. Although Kyrie had very few lines, their relationship is SO CUTE, I LOVE THEM TO BITS.
I also like that Nero goes "Sorry Nico!" each time he breaks ones, it's a cute little touch.
Speaking of Nico, she's a pretty fun character! I love the PSA of "we do not promote smoking" at the start, and everyone just NOT being a fan of it lmaoo
but only complaint…my singular issue…IS THE FACT SHE'S WHITE.
Listen, we can all have our preferences, but come on… She's Agnus' daughter, and while there are some mixed couples who can have white kids, HER DESCRIPTION IN "BEFORE THE NIGHTMARE" (from what I read on the Wiki) IS THAT SHE HAS DARK SKIN, AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE DARK SKIN.
Capcom… HOW??? You have at LEAST two dark skinned characters, and that's Agnus and Morrison. HER DESCRIPTION LITERALLY SAYS DARK SKIN AND SHE'S WHITE QAQ
I don't know if this was a retcon or an afterthought, but this was SHOCKING when I found this out. Still, I like her character, she's pretty fun. Her interaction with Dante was really cute.
Onto the next character with a totally cool and seamless transition…
V is INCREDIBLE??? I love his character. I love his combat too, it's so fun! I will say, I do struggle to get Shadow to do some attacks, but hey, most missions with V are S-tier so I'm pretty good with that B)
I agree with a friend who stated that V is a breath of fresh air. It's a bit sad that he's "gone" (or reunited with Vergil), I'd love to see him again if ever possible. Griffon is a silly little bird, I love how everyone teases him. I will say, I kept forgetting about Nightmare? Then again, I often forget to use Devil Trigger until it's REALLY necessary. I started using it closer towards the end though!
Dante is silly as always. I do, surprisingly, have a small complaint about him tho. Not about his character, but about his controls. While I do play with auto-aim or however on, I find it so. freaking. annoying that it keeps shifting my weapon and my style without me prompting it. At least in the beginning!
It was so frustrating where I wanted to do attacks with Rebellion, but it kept switching over to Balrog. I did adjust to it, but it's still a complaint I have.
Another issue I had playing him was the fact that…well, transitions between some attacks didn't work out well. Mainly when it came to melee-to-range attacks, and vice versa. Sometimes, doing one attack and trying to do another type just…didn't work? I'd have to re-target the enemy for it to work, which is fascinating. I can't tell if that's intentional or not.
It has lead to me having some combat difficulties, unfortunately. After all, it's frustrating trying to shoot an enemy and Dante just stands there aiming without shooting when I'm pressing the damn attack button lmao.
The way he gets his new DT transformation was SO COOL? The fact he has to stab himself with Rebellion to trigger it was fascinating. Dude really has ONE mandatory stabbing minimally per game, huh? I'll keep that in mind >:]
Was it a little difficult to charge the Sin DT while in combat? Yeah… Was it disappointing to learn that Sin DT does not heal you like regular DT? Also yeah… Made it just a liiiitle more challenging fighting Vergil. I suppose it's a balancing feature, where Sin DT gives you a HUGE damage buff while regular DT is a general boost but also heals.
The transformation certainly is somethin tho, I will say that. His teeth makes me think of needles.
Speaking of stabbing, VERGIL!!!!! Riku-soundin ass (sorry not sorry, I have to mention this each time), what a goober. It was very interesting seeing him as Urizen, and then when V arrived and did his cane stabbing and became his actual form? Chef's kiss. I will say, and I mean this with no heat, he does look just a little silly.
It's the hair. I'm sorry, his hair makes me giggle, and now that it's all realistic, I just see his face and go "he so smol". Granted, it's only in specific angles I think that. Overall, his design is really fucking cool.
I love fighting him. His fight was my favorite. I don't know why, but Vergil is just a REALLY fun boss to me. Even if I did die once (when I figured out Sin DT doesn't heal you), it's still a very fun and cool boss fight.
AND WHEN NERO INTERVENES ALL MAIN CHARACTER STYLE just to get the girls to stop fighting was also silly but so good. Dante just gets bitch slapped tf out and takes over the combat, and I must say, fighting Vergil as Nero was a lot more enjoyable for me. I love Nero, I can't stress that enough.
Gods, I love ALL these characters. Dante barged in without warning, then the others just sorta waltzed on in without permission and now they're having a party Vergil's kinda there, but it's mostly V ^-^'
Something I am FASCINATED by is Vergil and Dante's relationship. It goes more than sibling rivalry, and although Dante is seemingly down to kill his own brother, I feel like there's something more to it? It's stated that they've been fighting each other constantly since childhood, and I'm so curious as to why?
I can see a bit that Vergil was left behind because their mother died when there was danger trying to search for him, and while I don't have the full context of the whole story (I have not and doubt I ever will read the manga, respectfully), it's fascinating to me how extreme this brotherly relationship has gotten.
I mean, Dante says he'll kill Vergil, but how true is that statement really? Dante has been stabbed many times, and is still kicking. Vergil stabbed himself with Yamato, the fucking blade that OPENS PORTALS, and is still kicking. Can they really kill each other for good? Can they???
In a way, it's almost…mmm, it's weird to say possessive? Of Dante? I understand where he's coming from in terms of not wanting Nero to kill Vergil (btw, I FUCKING LOVE THE REVEAL of Vergil as Nero's father, the emotion and voice acting was PHENOMENAL, I keep rewatching it), but practically shoving others out of the way because "he has to be the one to kill him" is very interesting. Idk if "possessive" is the right word, but there's definitely some type of relationship here that makes both Vergil and Dante feel like they HAVE to fight and kill each other.
The ending where Dante and Vergil fight together in the Demon World was also interesting. I do like that Vergil kept his word when Nero fought him, even if it was simply because he thought their fight would be interrupted should the portal stayed open, and went down with Dante to destroy Qliphoth's roots.
Which is ANOTHER layer of Dante and Vergil's relationship that's fascinating to me. There's hostility, they both wanna kill each other, and yet they both have at LEAST worked together TWICE. They can be cordial, but ONLY if it's against something that's interrupting their plans for each other.
Also, Vergil being irritated when Dante goes "Jackpot" is so funny to me siudghusdgi
The ambiguous ending of the game certainly makes me wonder what they plan to do next.
It FEELS like it might be something Lady and Trish focused, but who's to say on that front. There are a few things of this series that makes me think, strangely enough, of Dragon Ball Z (never watched Super).
Let me explain.
The rivalry between Dante and Vergil feels very much akin to Goku and Vegeta. They're both wanting to get stronger than the other, to best the other, and all this stuff that parallels with what Goku and Vegeta's relationship is.
Additionally, the shift of character focus going from Dante to Nero reminds me of how Toriyama (rest in piece) tried to make Gohan the new protagonist of the series during the Cell Saga (I believe???), but (from what I know) went back to Goku because the streaming platform didn't want to get rid of Goku, who was the most recognized and beloved character.
What I mean is, unless they really try to reign in Dante and Vergil's whole dynamic throughout the series, whether to evolve it or to continue the rivalry, I feel like the series, should it be continuing (I hope so), is going to lean more towards Nero more than Dante.
Not a bad thing, at least in my eyes. Just based on how 5 ended, I struggle to see how that conflict between Vergil and Dante will end? I see a lot of people interpret it as Vergil joining the Devil May Cry crew, but I don't know if that's fanmade or canon. I see a lot of interpretations of Vergil working with Dante, and while that'd be cool, I struggle to see HOW.
At the VERY least, I can see them having a more cordial relationship with less hostility. Still hostile at times, but less so, if given the right approach. Seeing that V is Vergil's humanity, and (from what I can recall) has learned of the things he (Vergil) had missed out on due to being so focused on finding power, I can see Vergil, VERY SLOWLY, possibly opening his mind to accept his humanity. Even just a bit.
Another DBZ comparison, kinda like how Vegeta grew past his teachings of being a "True Saiyan" and started a life with Bulma and had two kids. He's rough, sure, but he genuinely cares for his family, and is very protective (I know it's a bit more shown in Super, but I've not actually seen that version. I've seen some clips tho).
Even though I doubt the animosity between Vergil and Nero will disappear anytime soon, I can MAYBE see there being some semblance of an attempt to at least get to know Nero, even if it does fall in line of just seeing how strong Nero can be. I mean, he's already quite fascinated by Nero's DT form and how strong he is, so it's quite possible.
Along with the fact that Vergil plans to return for a rematch, I feel like there's a possible chance he might get a change of heart while in the Demon World with Dante, but who's to say really (not me, I'm not Capcom lol).
Given the fact that I REALLY want to make a story that takes place in a semblance of the canon timeline, I think the way this game ended is definitely throwing a wrench in the gears. Primarily because of Dante's current predicament.
I KNOW that I can practically do whatever I want, but my silly ass brain likes to make things feel like they make sense in SOME capacity if I lean into canon stuff. It's not just Dante that's giving me complications, I had plans for V too, and then he's just gone near the end and I'm sad QAQ
Overall, I had a fantastic time. I'll be replaying this game as Vergil to get through that experience, just like I did with 3, and I'll still play through Vergil and Lady/Trish's styles in DMC4 as well on my own time.
Speaking of, I know I didn't mention Lady and Trish in this, but I honestly don't have that much to say about them?? Trish felt more involved compared to Lady, and that's only because of her interaction with V that one time.
I do like that they're considered the "most powerful women in the world" by Dante. That's really cute imo.

I'll likely post some art I make and whatnot of my personal designs of the characters (I don't feel comfortable calling it a redesign, it's just my take on them) along with some OCs, and (once I get started on it) I'll be writing my story concept(s). No, they will not be reader inserts, they will be stories with canon characters and OCs.
I don't expect it to be read, but it'll be for me, and that's all that matters -w-
