My name is Kristina Saajanaho, familiarly Pipsa. I have been since childhood interest in art and design, and I feel it is a strong part of me. The design is also an important part of our daily lives even though we don’t usually notice it or pay attention to it. Design surrounds us, it appears in our environment, architecture, nature and urban life rhythm. I think it is interesting to make design that touches us on the emotional level, calms us down and serves us in an otherwise hectic pace of today's world. I prefer soft, organic, dynamic forms that have a feeling of motion, that come from, for example, human trajectories. The shape itself is a delicious study which I am dedicating more deeply this year. As a designer, I want to develop myself constantly, and I believe that every work should be done as a challenge for oneself.
I selected Moiree lamp to accompany me to DMY, which was my first studies into form. Moiree is made of plane plywood, and the form is created by the inside pressure. Moiree got it's name from creating an interference on the surface that causes an optical illusion. The second work is one part of my thesis "Dynamic shape" (Read more about the Dynamic shape from Theseus: http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:amk-2015060512562). There's also a Hippopotamus Amphibius- chair that is made in collaboration with Oona Hytönen. Photo by Oona Hytönen

DMY Blog 1: the set up
The Set Up
We arrived to an incredibly spacious hangar at Tempelhof airport. The monumental and historic building is the perfect place to showcase new designs and talent. The atmosphere was one of business, getting down to work and creating a welcoming and exciting space for visitors.
Our stand was in good company with well established Czech-based company, Ton, on our left showcasing 150 years of experience and design. On our right we had rising design brand Victor Foxtrot showcasing innovative and minimal designs from Hamburg.
The press day was also eventful for us. Our designer, Lina Alorabi, was interviewed by one of the largest German TV channels. She was interviewed about her designs and her experiences working in Egypt.
All in all, a a great welcome to Berlin!
