CREATIVE REVIEW ‘Coffee Cup Stories’
This Was A Great Monday
Minus the fact that I was exhausted and stuck in the office for hours....
BUT. There are a couple reasons as to why this particular Monday was so fabulous. When I got there, I was at first doing the usual paperwork, filing, organizing things on Excel, then I decide after about two hours it was time to make my rounds of office visits to see if anyone needs anything. I get to Joe's office, and Joe is the guy I've gone to the movies and out to dinner with and what not, and he has a lovely bit of information for me. His cousin is another intern at DNA and apparently, the commercial I'm working on on Wednesday was supposed to be hers. However, this commercial seems to have some kind of ties to Perry Fair - the man who initially got me the internship at DNA - so Patricia, an executive producer at DNA who granted me the internship, suggested that I be put on that commercial instead. I'm still not 100% why she wants me on it, like I don't know if Perry is going to be there or what, but hey I'll take it! This job is going to be paid...
Speaking of paid jobs...the policy for interns at DNA is that one their first job, they don't get paid. They work the job as an intern, do whatever is needed of them, and they go home. Well. Apparently my producer, John Lathan, thought I did an exceptional job on set and I really left an impression on him. So today, he happened to be in the office and when I was doing my office runs, I bumped into him! It was the regular, Hey, How are ya? How are things? What ya workin on? yadda yadda. Then he started asking me if I turned in a payroll sheet. I told him I did, I gave it to Shawn the PM. He double-checked and bam, he found it. He told me he didn't care what DNA's policy was, I worked hard enough for him to want to pay me! I have no idea what PA's were getting for that job, but I'll be pumped if I get anything!
Then he had me do some paperwork for him from the Amelia Lily shoot. When I brought it all back to his cubicle, we had a conversation about what I was doing out here. I told him I wasn't doing much at all, barely working, only in the office one day a week, I'm lucky if I get a job once a week. He told me that he really liked how I worked, willing to help out with anything and everything, and he would love to see me on another one of his shoots. I told him I could be a PA for anything he needed and once again he made sure he had my contact info and he was stoked. And so was I! He told me to definitely stay in touch with Shawn because Shawn works a lot of shoots and if I were going to get hooked up with good work from anyone, it would be him.
So now I have TWO good connections out here in LA! I am busting my but with this whole networking thing, it's really going to pay off! I'm so excited to work this commercial on Wednesday. Tuesday is going to be sooooo sloooowww.
