random question for any/all dnd players out there, bc my friends and I were debating this yesterday: if a spell doesn’t explicitly say that it gets stronger at higher levels, and/or have an explanation for what happens when casted with a higher level spell slot, are you able to cast that spell with a higher level spell slot than required? What about if it’s a UA spell? We were trying to figure it out for the spell Healing Elixir specifically. My DM thinks it shouldn’t be possible to cast healing elixir with spell slots above first because it creates a first level potion and being able to essentially spam it is OP. I think you should be able to do it because as far as I can find there’s no rule saying that a spell can’t be cast at higher levels simply because there’s no bonuses for doing so. It doesn’t particularly matter to our campaign at this point but now I’m just curious, so what do y’all think? If I can’t find a clear answer through tumblr next course of action is to email hasbro and ask them so either way I’m getting to the bottom of this
