📜 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄 - 𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 (𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐕𝟏) No more strength as a dump stat 😂 Although encumbrance is often ignored I am convinced that some version of it is the best way to balance the over reliance on Dexterity in 5e. This variant rule is intended to be a simple way to illustrate how adventuring equipment and weapons would hinder a character's ability to optimally perform physical activities. This rule also attempts to balance the Strength and Dexterity ability scores by imposing some consequences on weaker characters. This is not an attempt to simulate reality because their are a lot of things wonky with trying to compare ability scores to real life - for example I’m pretty certain Hafthor Björnsson can’t out climb Alex Honnold or out jump a university track and field athlete … but I digress … As a player (playing Declan Feralborn) I would often role play dumping my pack and heavy furs before a fight. I liked the imagery and also know how hard it is to be quick and agile while carrying a heavy ruck on your back in real life. ⚠️⚠️ This is a very rough draft and far from perfect. I started tinkering with it late last night after seeing some tweets by other creators lamenting encumbrance. I decided to share it unpolished and half thought out in the hope that it would encourage theory craft discussions and friendly debate.
