The Sluagh of the Shamrock Codex

The Sluagh (Sloo-ah) are restless supernatural beings inspired by Celtic and Irish folklore, and they are joining the collection of creatures in my Shamrock Codex.

I created three different playable versions, ranging from CR 1 to CR 5. This allows them to appear in several kinds of adventures, from a strange encounter with a lone wandering spirit to a far more dangerous gathering of shadowy creatures.

The Shamrock Codex will feature creatures and ideas inspired by Irish folklore, Celtic mythology, St. Patrick traditions, and other related legends.

While working on the artwork, I wanted the Sluagh to look dark, distorted, and unnatural, as if their forms were constantly shifting through smoke and shadow.

I mostly succeeded.

One of them still looks wonderfully derpy.

It is difficult to create a group of terrifying supernatural beings without accidentally drawing at least one who looks confused about why everyone is screaming.

The site brings together my original fantasy artwork, D&D and TTRPG homebrew creations, developing adventures, project updates, and the strange worlds slowly taking shape behind all these sketches.

Some of the artwork shared here will eventually become playable creatures. Some maps belong to larger adventures. Other ideas may begin as jokes, puns, or curious little concepts before growing into something far more dangerous for an unsuspecting adventuring party.

A First Look at the Armon Beast Inn

Here is an early map sketch for the Armon Beast Inn, a location from my Mother’s Day adventure, Dies Festi Matrum.

The inn and its surrounding grounds are loosely inspired by the unsettling atmosphere and layout of the Bates property from Psycho. It is not intended to be a direct recreation, but players familiar with the inspiration may recognize certain details, including the separated buildings, central grounds, private rooms, and the feeling that something is very wrong just beyond the next doorway.

This version is still a work in progress. The finished release will include completed artwork, an updated map, expanded encounters, additional story material, and more ways for Game Masters to use the location in their own adventures.

The Armon Beast Inn may look quiet from the road, but quiet places tend to hide the worst family secrets.

Meet Minnie the Mimic | Where’s Nessie? Art Update

Sharing another art update from Where’s Nessie?, my children’s interactive Storypath Adventure.

This is Minnie the Mimic, and yes, she is exactly as suspicious as she looks. A purple treasure chest with sharp teeth, one very watchful eye, and a big red tongue is not exactly subtle, but subtlety is overrated when you are a magical box trying to ruin someone’s snack-based decision-making.

Minnie is part of the adventure’s creature encounters, giving young readers a fun moment of mystery, danger, and choice. Where’s Nessie? is almost finished, with only a few drawings left before the next major step.

I’m also still debating whether to release the printed edition and EPUB version around the same time. Because apparently making one version of a book was not enough chaos for my schedule.
