The Kids™, in their respective jumpers runs at trial a couple weekends ago
Do I miss talking about my agility training on tumblr? Yes. Do I have any idea what to say anymore? No. Two minute lunch break training compilation.
me: okay we’re just doing training runs in intro, i’m going to drop tempo’s jump height—she’s still only 18 months
tempo:
my motto for elite jumpers has been “bonus box until we Q or I die” (which has left us with four VERY NEAR misses and zero qualifying runs.) today they did not offer me a bonus box option, forcing us to Q 🙏🏻
Do you mind elaborating on the difference between your wrap cues?
I have drawn you a picture :)
Dune uses “dig” and “tight”; Tempo uses “left” and “right.”
Dune’s cues are based on where he is in relation to me. If I want him to wrap the wing by turning towards me, that’s “dig.” If I want him to wrap the wing by turning away from me, that’s “tight.”
Tempo’s cues are absolute. If I want her to wrap the left or right wings, no matter where I am, I say so. (And then, at this stage, pray that she will take the suggestion.)
If you can wrap your head around right and left (has not been much of an issue for me but I have heard a few folks complain about it), I think it is much much clearer communication and I genuinely wish I’d taught Dune this way! However he is seven and I have already had to reframe wraps for him once and I’m not running out of other things to train SO—
we’re working our way up to more difficult international style courses; here is a baby starter
✨ wrap cues ✨
elite chances title ✨
i was too scared of the bonus box—that was a 50 foot send and we don’t have the same kind of confidence and momentum in a trial setting as we do in practice. if i had known that we only needed the one Q to title, i would’ve attempted it on the second one. next time………
