“...George?” Dream swallows past the lump in his throat, words dying on his tongue.
“Yes,” George grins, “Your highness?” -- knight!dream and king!george -- Regret, retaliation, and the realisation of what you've done.

In which Dream is assigned as Prince George's new personal guard and finds that it is surprisingly easy to fall for the royal with the spunky attitude but incredibly hard to keep his secrets from him.
“You’ve been out there, right?” George motions beside him toward the mountains. “Beyond the kingdom gates?”
“A handful of times,” he answers truthfully— well, truthfully enough.
“You think it’s scary out there?” He motions towards the edge of the balcony extravagantly as Dream processes the question.
There were a few ways Dream could answer that, he decides. Those walls were the only thing that has kept him safe from what was out beyond them, something he was eternally grateful for. Venturing outside of those walls was a death trap for him for a multitude of reasons, reasons that George certainly did not need to know. Ever.
“Yeah,” Dream settles with, turning to take one last glance of the mountains beyond the gates. “Absolutely terrifying.” --- Inspired by Reflections by The Neighborhood

Clay would do absolutely anything for George, no matter how much the King was upset by it.

"No, your majesty," Dream finally continued after a moment of silence. "No one will ever be good enough for you. No one will ever be perfect for you. But whoever that person is, they had better damn well try."

The day in which King George has a line of suitors come and try to win him over.
The palace staff tries to help their king filter out the bad people,
But no one is a harsher judge that the king's own knight, Dream.

"You never left your fucking land until a fragile prince with a pretty face walked into the picture," he snarled, charging forward.

"We're not so different, you and I," the king began, lifting the bone mask from his face and glaring down with piercing green eyes that marked his enemy's last breaths.
He tossed it to the ground, before pressing his foot down on the trembling man's chest. Ignoring the pleading and clawing, he raised his sword above his head, body taut, using all his strength when he snapped back down like a rubber band.
"I've got a bit of an ego myself."
--- (After meeting at a ball, Dream has taken a liking to Prince George and the way he blushes so pretty. But Dream's a bit of a cocky bastard and George doesn't like that.)

On his eighteenth birthday, as crown prince of his kingdom, Dream is expected to attend three nights of a masquerade party, by the end of which he must choose his suitor. Little does he know that his best friend George is also attending the ball, but under a mask of his own.

"Well everything is technically yours, Georgie," Dream stated. "Everything your eyes can see will someday be yours." Dream stood up dramatically. "This tree! This river! This- this rabbit!" George giggled at his friend's antics. "You are one year closer to the day this kingdom will be at your fingertips."
"And the first rule I will make is that you always have to be at the palace to celebrate my birthday with me," George said.
"Promise?" Dream tilted his head mischievously.

"Wake up, wake up, wake up," George chanted.

Dream had disappeared for a week, unbeknownst to even his Prince, only to come stumbling home, half-dead and injured, being carried by a stranger exactly 21 days before Prince George's 21st birthday.
Those 21 days leading up to the birthday were eventful, to say the least,
And George hated more than anything that he couldn't talk to his knight about it
