Cat, I just wrote my first chapter. I did do that. I'm panicking internally because I didn't think I'd get here. But honestly what am I supposed to do after I finish writing the fic? Do I publish it on ao3? How do I find readers? HELP

Post it! Even if you don't think anyone will read it. Building readership takes time, but you will get better every time you finish something. So don't worry about whether it's good enough or if people will read it (because chances are SOMEONE will). Just post it. The fandom will be enriched by your contribution, and you will grow as a writer. I look back at my first few works with both fondness and shame. But that's good. It means I've grown in my craft and gotten better than I was 6 years ago, and I wouldn't have grown as much as I have if I never made that first post.

AO3 especially is all in the tags and the summary anyway. Don't be disheartened if your fic doesn't take off right away. It doesn't mean your story isn't good. Fandom is just a fickle beast, and it also depends on what else is published around your story. Keep going!
