Why Outlander writers canna do right with the fans.

I just watch episode 2 of Outlander and I’m still shatter. It’s difficult to talk about privilege and racism because we all have different opinions, more often will not be informed opinions.

But damm! How awful we can be? And still we need to talk about it, Entertainment needs to show it and not sugarcoated the reality of many so we can feel better. The “we came here to scape” it’s bullshit, literature and entertainment are the studies of societies, go to E! so you can scape. 

I consume literature that teach me about others views of the world, it reminds me the Ted Talk ok Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie “The danger of a single story” and how stereotypes exist because of stories. 

This episode of Outlander make me think how contagious hate is. I was race catholic and in my school I was told that Jews killed Jesus and that small part of a fact teach to resented Jews without reason, and I was a kid! Then a read Anne Frank’s diary when I was 12 and learn about the WWII. How dare they to spread hate and ignorance, why we can be so incredibly stupid? To deny such things. How dare we to pretend that we know how it feels to be ripped away like that?

And today we have seen Latin American families torn apart, fucking 21ª century, America the beautiful, 200 years and we still fucking assholes to those who look different from us,  and many fans were angry because of the song of the first episode! “I dream for some can be a nightmare for others”.   

Jamie lost his family because of war, lost his home because of war. America was form with all of those people that fled because didn’t have other options, like today’s Latinos or Muslims. America was form of poor Europeans, its seems so odd today, white slaves, African people take from their home like Rufus...like Ian. What is the difference? 

I read others comments about the show, how difficult it was for black people to watch it, how whites continues to cure their guilt and make decision for others, that was a mistake in the script, and Matt B Roberts: It was Rufus who had to make the decision, not Claire. 

But how dare we to say that the show didn’t do justice to something that was accurate, whites do take decision without thinking in circumstances of others all the fucking time, black people have had to live many years with that fuck up reality, don’t scape from that. Accepted and change it. That’s why this shows are important. Make us think on outrageous acts done by and to humans, write about it and heal it in the best way we can.

I am the child of those who raped and invade a land, stole a treasure and slave people. I have to live with it and be proud of the country that was formed, if black people and jews are conscious of those paths, why, we white fucking christians, have to be so fucking presumptuous of what is right. 

And that to think, why this episode wasn’t write by a black person?
