I desperately need Lyonel to spoil Lady Doe. From new dresses to books to jewelry. All of it. I want that man to spoil her ROTTEN. Lady Doe deserves all the finer things she never got as a child.
I doooooo have a one shot in the works regarding this very premise for lyonel and doe.
doe is definitely not used to getting anything other than what is absolutely necessary (even if those necessary things were of finer quality, as was fitting for her station), but they've never been luxurious for her. she has the same three sets of jewelry that she rotates through, and she's had them since she was old enough to be seen. her dresses are of fine quality, but they're not of the current fashions and quite frankly she couldn't tell you what those current fashions were if you asked her about it. they made her presentable and that was enough because it had always been enough. she used things until she couldn't, mended them until she no longer had to. luxuries were never wasted on her.
her thoughts on jewels and dresses and frilly things were never present before because those things were never extended to her. but when lyonel starts to gift her things, after some resistance, she realizes that he doesn't do this because they're just things. he does it because he feels she deserves them, ya know?
it's the books that get her. he sees it when he initially gifts them to her. like the candles in a pitch black room being lit. small tokens (in his eyes) of appreciation for her.
idk, the man loves his wife and is learning how to show it in ways that aren't just physical.
