#134 Underground, Connor and Dobby
"Ack—!" Dobby kicked yet another rat away from her feet. "These damn things are even bigger than the ones that scurry around the docks in the evenin’…" She pointed out, subtly moving closer to Connor. She wasn’t scared of the rodents by any means, but Connor was the one holding the lantern and they seemed to stay farther away from him. If anything bothered her, it was the cramped, dark, stuffy quarters. She far preferred open air and the ability to see oncoming enemies. Assassin or not, the set of maze-like underground tunnels was just not her forte. It was on more than one occasion that Dobby could have sworn they’d passed up the exact same spot or passageway. Her hesitant steps or short pauses to regain her bearings told Connor plenty enough."We are nearly there." Connor assured her, looking back with a subtle but confident smile. "How can you tell?” She knew Connor wasn’t lying, but how he knew was beyond her. "I have been this way before." He answered her simply. "There is a gate up ahead, and after that we turn left. The room will open up slightly and provide several exits." Connor went on, holding the lantern up and ahead. Sure enough, it was just as he had said. Dobby turned towards him and shook her head. “You really are somethin’, you know that?” She chuckled, and went to take the lantern from him. The light reveal three exits, a board tacked above each doorway with the name of the street or general area it let out to. "Perhaps. But it also helps to have one of these." Connor produced a fairly crude map of the underground, but it was detailed enough to provide anyone a better sense of where they were going. "Glad to know I wasn’t goin’ daft." She narrowed her eyes at him, but the gaze was playful. "You could’ve just told me you had that to begin with." Dobby leaned against a nearby brick wall, suddenly not minding the dampness. "And where is the fun in that?" Connor actually appeared amused at the thought of teasing her."Hm. And now I beg you to spare my sense of dignity.." She replied, in little more than a mumbled. But in truth it made her happy to see him lighten up and not have to take everything so seriously. A breath of fresh air, even in these rat-ways. "Come on. We should get back to the others." Connor motioned towards one of the exits. The look she gave him asked if they had to, but she knew here and now was not the time to start anything. Dobby complied, running her hand across his chest as she passed by him, and hooked the lanter to a metal ring on the wall before the both of them left the tunnels behind.
