Turks of Chernavo, somewhere in North Dobruca

So, “Chernavo” was mentioned as a settlement in Romania, but I couldn’t find any infrmation about such a town. I’m pretty sure that the settlement is in the Romanian part of Dobruca. Possibly, it is either Cherna, a comune in Tulça, or Chernavoda (Romanian: Negruvoda/Turkish: Karaömer), in Köstence.

Balchik is a Black Sea town located in Bulgaria, near Romania. Although hundreds of kilometers separated it from the imperial capital, Istanbul, the Balkan Turks continued to maintain contact with the Ottoman Empire. On the photo you can see 10 Ottoman flags and one Bulgarian on the left.

A Turkish wedding in Hırşova,  Köstence county, Romania, 1930s. There is not much information about the city. It was most probably conquered with the fall of the Dobrudja principality in 1396. Towards the end of the 16th century, the Ottoman vasal Wallachian prince Michael the Brave fought a war against the Ottomans. Under his protection were also the Oltenian brothers Buzescu, who together with Radu Florescu attacked Hırşova. “The Turks emerged in an attack on Harsova fighting against Preda [Buzescu] and Radu [Florescu] the Comis, and as the two armies faced each other, the Turks were defeated. The Romanians chased them across the frozen River Danube and beat them decisively. They then burnt Harsova." // (Cantacuzino Chronicle). According to some historians, this attack was important for the course of the battle of Calugareni. According to the 2011 census 829 (9,37%) Turks still continue to live in Hırşova. The city has one mosque .
