Miss Fisher Random Thoughts (297)
Mac and Murdoch, Woman and Man of Science.
Before anyone starts protesting that Jack has also studied science, let me point out that Mac is the resident scientist of MFMM even though Jack has also demonstrated his scientific knowledge several times that impresses Miss Fisher and us the viewers. Besides, the side-by-side photos of Mac and Murdoch holding the test tubes are a pretty good match, aren’t they?

My MFMM Calendars 2018: March
March is for the marvelous Doctor Mac. The quote I chose for my custom-made calendar to the right is “I was born with the type of inquiring mind that often gets me into trouble”. At a time when women were still underrepresented in medical school, Mac had already become a physician in the Women’s Hospital, a medical school professor, and a coroner for the police station in a major city. Even Professor Bradbury, whose life research was to prove that women and minorities had underdeveloped and inferior brains, admired her intelligence (“you’d be hard-pressed to find a finer mind than Elizabeth MacMillan’s”). We don’t know what kind of “trouble” she was referring to here, but I imagine they were good kind of trouble.
On the left is the MFMM official calendar, with our favorite aviatrix Miss Fisher, who like Mac was also a pioneer in many ways. We know she was a skilled pilot, but the book series also mentioned her being a daredevil wing-walker. Jack made a reference of it in S3E2 Murder and the Maiden (“Why aren’t you at the RAAF, wing walking or something”), but we didn’t actually see it on the show. I know it’s a difficult stunt to perform, but I have a feeling that Essie would thrive on the challenge. Fingers crossed for the feature film. Anyway, here we see her in a “gorgeous shade of brown” because she went undercover as Tatiana Fyodoroff in S3E2 Murder and the Maiden; flying the airplane was not part of the original plan (assuming she had one). Her usual aviation gear was the brighter version of an off-white blouse and coat, brown skirt and boots, and a fabulous tan scarf with light yellow and green pattern. I can’t fly a plane to save my life, but I would totally pretend to be a pilot just to don that gorgeous outfit.
