Paging Doctor Kovalev...
I’d like to take a moment to discuss one of the most unique and talented makers I’ve ever come across. Roman Kovalev - Owner and maker of Doctor’s Pipes. Below are a few of my thoughts on his work.
I believe my first thought was, “Oh God, what is that?!” I didn’t mean it in a negative way. Actually, I was a bit obsessed with this short, crooked bamboo piece of his on my desk. It made me oddly think of some alien monster that would suddenly spring to life and smile up at me. And yet, in all the mangled, jagged lines of each piece that I got my hands on, they all had a common factor. Elegance. Utterly bizarre but bold elegance.
Most known for his unusual accent materials (such as polymerized dinosaur bone, quirky bamboo, and signature sandblast technique he has dubbed “Areoblast”), Roman quickly gained the attention and respect of many in the pipe world.
