Think back on your own salvation. You were dead in your sins and trespasses, and therefore a slave to sin, and a hater of God. The very fact you called on the name of Christ is a testament of the mercy of God towards you--He has quickened you and gave you understanding to see the reality of your sin and the depths of His holiness and grace. Praise God for that!
