Week 11- Festival Life

For my final week of the ‘Documenting my summer’ photography project, I decided to shoot on disposable cameras whilst at Reading Festival. When there, I chose to make my shoot slightly more documentary-type, candid images. In these images, I tried to capture some of the different aspects of festival life; listening to the live music, walking around the arena and sitting anf spending time with friends. I also think that the effect that is added to the images by shooting it on disposable cameras.

Week 10- What is it? @esherphotography @photographystephen This week I thought that I would look at a more abstract concept for the title of 'what is it' and decided to take pictures of footprints left in the sand on a beach and what the story about the person that left them. This makes the viewers think and contemplate what the story behind the footprint is.

Week 9- In my opinion @esherphotography @photographystephen I struggled with ideas for this shoot, but I decided that a subject that has caused a lot of strong opinions across this country over the past couple of months is the European Referendum. Personally, this issue is important to me and in my opinion, the result is undeniably going to affect (in whichever way that it does) my generation and the younger generation, for example, studying abroad is going to be a lot harder for British students as the Erasmus grant is likely to no longer apply to British students as they will no longer have EU citizenship. For this shoot I collected a few European maps and focused on areas that had many different roads leading from a centre to represent the many different ways in which Britain leaving the EU can affect people living and working in Britain.

Week 8- Same Subject, Four Angles

One of my favourite holiday activities is reading so I thought that I would take the subject of the current book that I am reading, which is ‘Siege and Storm’ by Leigh Bardugo. I looked at a few different angles of a book, looking at the cover of the book, the individual pages, different angles from the side of the book and the open book pages. Through these four angles the different textures of a book can be clearly seen which I think works really effectively and I really like.

Week 7- My Favourite

This week, I decided to use photos that I took on one of my favourite days of my holiday down in Devon at Hope Cove and also two of my favourite subjects to take photos of, the sea and my dog Bobbie. The images of the sea are from a hike that I took along the sea front and up and down the seaside cliffs and these show the views from this hike which show the different colours and shades of the sea and the picture of my dog shows him running down the hill of our campsite towards the sea and I just love the expression on his face.

Week 6- Morning Light (Re-shoot)

Due to the fact that I was very unhappy with my original shoot for ‘morning light’ I decided to reshoot, and I used two different morning sunrise images, the more dramatically coloured sunrise was from camping down in Devon near the coast and the strong colours was my intention for the original shoot which was unsuccessful. I think that the soft blending of the colours of the sunrise works really effectively and, to me, looks a lot like brushstrokes of paint which is an effect that I really like. The lighter, softer images are from my week in Somerset staying at my Grandparents’ bungalow. This sunrise was much softer and lighter, which I also think works really nicely and can represent the potential calm of the morning and the sunrise.

WEEK 7 - MY FAVORITE… My favourite thing that i’ve done/doing this summer is Travelling via Interailing. I met with my two friends in Venice, Italy after a family holiday and so far we’ve interrailed from Venice - Milan - Chur and as im writing this im in a hostel in Zermatt (where the Matterhorn is) but yeah its really opened my eyes to a completely new way if living and so far ive had some of the best experiences of my life ! @photographystephen @esherphotography

Week 6- Morning Light @esherphotography I waited to do this shoot because this week I am camping down in Devon and I wanted to capture how morning light affects the sea and how it bounces off the water. However, I shot these images between 4:30 and 5 this morning and they clearly have not worked due to the fact that it was a very overcast and cloudy morning, therefore I am planning on reshooting next Wednesday when I am staying in Wincanton where I am more likely to achieve softer, more successfully lit images. I especially am unhappy with the grainy quality due to the dark light and having to use my phone camera as I otherwise be unable to upload anything this week.
