" Would you mind helping with me something? " A somewhat upfront question, though unsurprising given the mage seemed to lack tact on occasion. " An elven family from the alienage visited the clinic a week or so back. Their boy was ill, and from the situation I got the feeling the Chantry must’ve turned them away? But that's really neither here nor now, I suppose. " Thin lips had worked themselves into a frown, the blond shaking his head before his inner thoughts on the matter evolved into a spoken tangent.
" Anyways, after I had treated the boy I promised I'd brew a few balms and potions for their condition, but no one's come to collect them since. So--- I thought I'd try to deliver them myself now that I've time. " It wasn't entirely unusual for him to have a patient in his clinic then never see them again in the time he had spent in Kirkwall thus far, but there was obviously something about this that had concerned the mage enough to desire a follow up with this particular case.
" I'd do it alone, but I've the feeling that I wouldn't really get anywhere just asking around. " Being human, and all.

→ maqyaža rolled a 19 + 3 for a 22 [shocking the hell out of their writer]!
if they are honest, they know that they still have a lot to learn about intermingling with those not of dragonkind. after all, this human form they have adopted, in and of itself, is imperfect. the ears appear more elven, and the teeth and nails are much too long and sharp. nevertheless, they are relatively clever. in their view, too, humans (of all the species) are the simplest to mimic; and that is where their confidence is borne, as they stand before hana now, posturing themselves as nothing more than a human, elf, or—brine, they don’t know—something in-between. they are assured that no one has the faintest idea, no matter how odd their mannerisms.
“do you always greet strangers in this way?” maqyaža asks with a narrowed gaze, arms crossed over their chest, barefoot in the middle of the woods as the day they were hatched.
@doekkabi sent a letter ; ‘i’m not disturbing you, am i?’
though certainly given a new & noble purpose , the tasks howl has been assigned as of late have been more mundane & boring than he’s been used to since the appearance of the breach --- whether he should be grateful for this or not remains to be seen . mixing potions is easy enough , crafting poultices & sorting through herbs , pausing to read a new recipe or two here & there ; really , fairbanks has provided him with more than the space & materials required --- ( & the inquisition’s help has been invaluable ) .
he doesn’t even hear hana walk in . & how could he , so engorged in his work & her footsteps so quiet ? his eyes flick up to meet hers as she speaks , & he offers a kind smile in response before anything else .
“ not at all , inquisitor . please , do come in . forgive me for the mess , i’ve been rather busy these past few weeks . ” he steps away from his worktable to heat the kettle with a swift gesture of his hand , soft orange flame steadily kindling beneath the bottom of the pot . “ i’ll prepare us some tea ... now , was there something you needed from me ? ”

❝Ignite this small but also highly flammable heart.❞ Mairwen held it up, grinning like a mad woman. She wasn’t usually the one to make things like this. But it could be fun, so she decided to try it. It could help her with the whole... Hiding her magic part of things. She could do her long range magic if she had a few items she could chuck at enemies. This one was heart shaped. Just because she thought it looked pretty neat.
❝Then toss it and it should go boom.❞
@doekkabi:
" i'm not asking you to give up-- " while hana stands firm in front of the maqyaža, her tone lacks any exasperation or condescension that's probably expected with the stubbornness of her insistence. she had expected that they’d clash at some points, hana had always been an overthinker after all. always considering the consequences, always measuring what she was willing to tarnish and risk... that was until everything came to a head and she chose to leave the mask of the bard behind and followed her heart. it had set her free from so much inner conflict, a storm of figuring out who she was that always seemed to make her feel sick and lost. still. hana isn’t sure if she’ll ever see kirkwall again.. she had hoped that the few years that’s passed would’ve nicked the homesickness in the bud-- but it hadn’t. she didn’t hold any regret in her actions, standing for what she believed was right... but it was bittersweet all the same.
still, its not like she doesn’t understand the brashness. hana’s quiet contemplation and strengths relying on avoiding direct confrontation as much as possible had people quick to label her indifferent. passive. lazy. “ we’re not going to lose them by taking a breather. ” she’s usually quite mindful of skinship of anyone she doesn’t especially feel close to, but she’s stubborn and needs to make a point. gentle hands reach out, slow and open, yet firm to wrap maq’s own hands on the pouch of rations hana had dug out of her pack. " i know its not much, " nothing she makes really is. still-- its edible and not entirely bland, " you should eat something too. ”
Maqyaža grows weary of what they perceive as inaction. Yet, at the same time, their thirst for conflict and immediate satisfaction has historically been the primary source of their poor decisions. Even so, they fail to recognize Hana’s methods as wise or beneficial. All they hear when she asks to postpone their tracking of their quarry is their travel companion’s desire to willfully reward said quarry an advantage of distance. They want to pace; however, Hana manages to discourage that behavior by reaching out to grasp, and subsequently guide, their hands to something.
The touch is thoroughly unexpected and causes Maqyaža to feel electrified in a way that even they—as a being of lightning and thunder—are unaccustomed to. They have seen Hana in a fight; they know perfectly well what she is capable of. Nevertheless, the gentle nature of her touch in this moment feels unearned, somehow. It gives them pause, leaves them there to blink as they look at the way her hands over their own. She is requesting that they rest and eat, but these rations are not suitable for their kind. Though, the gesture is kind.
“I will hunt,” they offer instead. “for the both of us.”
