i feel like in a p/jo verse, howl is definitely a child of venus over at camp jupiter … hes dramatic and pretty enough for it and i can totally see him w/ the charmspeak quirk.
anyway, howl gets pegged. happy sunday!

“HowL, you wouldn’t beliVe thiS!”
1/6 for the #sixcharacterschallenge , I’m doing them one by one from my insta suggestions.
the way i have like 5 icons but im still tryna write anyway
@doekkabi sent a letter ; ‘mind if i ask what brings you out here? perhaps we’re going the same way.’
howl sighs , perhaps a tad too dramatically , hanging his head & absently scratching his cheek with a slender finger . if he told her the truth , he may be labeled a creep , or a stalker , or something worse --- being a mage , & an apostate no less , he couldn’t be too careful with the risks he took . thankfully , his time in the circle had taught him the art of making excuses & telling clever lies ( or so he believes ) .
“ i , uh , couldn’t sleep , i suppose . the breach --- it affects me strangely . i’ve been seeing odd things in the fade lately , & it’s deeply unsettling . ” he can only hope she doesn’t ask for more details , because he’s quickly running out of words to describe them . how would he explain he was researching her , gathering data on the anchor , without coming off as dangerous , as a potential threat to the inquisition ? “ i decided maybe a walk might cool me off & ease my mind . are you going anywhere important ? or would you perhaps like to join me ? ”
DRAGON AGE : ORIGINS / ACCEPTING .
@doekkabi sent a letter ; ‘i’m not disturbing you, am i?’
though certainly given a new & noble purpose , the tasks howl has been assigned as of late have been more mundane & boring than he’s been used to since the appearance of the breach --- whether he should be grateful for this or not remains to be seen . mixing potions is easy enough , crafting poultices & sorting through herbs , pausing to read a new recipe or two here & there ; really , fairbanks has provided him with more than the space & materials required --- ( & the inquisition’s help has been invaluable ) .
he doesn’t even hear hana walk in . & how could he , so engorged in his work & her footsteps so quiet ? his eyes flick up to meet hers as she speaks , & he offers a kind smile in response before anything else .
“ not at all , inquisitor . please , do come in . forgive me for the mess , i’ve been rather busy these past few weeks . ” he steps away from his worktable to heat the kettle with a swift gesture of his hand , soft orange flame steadily kindling beneath the bottom of the pot . “ i’ll prepare us some tea ... now , was there something you needed from me ? ”
DRAGON AGE : ORIGINS / ACCEPTING .

‘you find that curious, do you?’
‘what do you want to hear? that i prefer to follow? i do.’
‘couldn’t you crawl into a bush somewhere and die? that would be great, thanks.’
‘it’s so nice to see everyone working together in a crisis. warms the heart.’
‘their blood is filling his pockets.’
‘stop complaining. you’re giving me a headache.’
‘so… we’ve come to solve every squabble in the village personally, have we?’
‘i’m here to make your head ache.’
‘there is nowhere to run.’
‘please! you’re scaring the children!’
‘better to slit their throats now than to let them suffer.’
‘i’ll be watching you. we want no trouble here.’
‘i was certain you were dead!’
‘you have a difficult road to walk, don’t you?’
‘that’s directed at me, i take it?’
‘your self-awareness does you credit.’
‘everyone said they hadn’t seen him.’
‘surely there’s no need for trouble?’
‘they’ve learned their lesson and we can all stop fighting, now.’
‘i do not wish death on anyone.;

‘perhaps your skull was cracked worse than we thought.’
‘you gonna make more trouble?’
‘you got a bed for the night?’
‘isn’t your mother a scary witch who lives in the middle of a forest?’
‘capturing you must have been difficult.’

‘either you have an enviable memory, or a pitiable life, to know nothing of regret.’
‘no one deserves that, not even a murderer.’
‘careful where your eyes linger.’
‘i was looking at your nose.’
‘what is it about my nose that captivates you so?’
‘i hate you so much.’
‘now we threaten priests? how fun!’
‘what? /company/? do i even want to ask?’
‘perhaps we have different ideas of freedom.’
‘and if you annoy me and i decide to kill you?’
‘mind if i ask what brings you out here? perhaps we’re going the same way.’
‘bad dreams, huh?’
‘why are you bothering me? i’m fine.’
‘it’s just that you were shouting in your sleep. loud. and not in a good ‘this-is-private’ way, either.’
‘i thought i should tell you. it was scary at first for me, too.’
‘did you just jump at the sight of your own shadow again?’
‘your furry friend here took offence at me getting near his food.’
‘for all you know, maybe you’ve already been fed something. or someone.’
‘a putrid half-eaten hare is not something a woman wants to find in her unmentionables.’
‘he’s just trying to be manipulative. i can tell; i do it too.’
‘i don’t have to prove anything to you.’
‘are they keeping people out? or in?’
‘they lack respect for themselves and their own power.’
‘why should i respect them?’
‘you were so badly hurt earlier. maybe i should come along.’
‘i was trying to tidy up.’
‘why are you cleaning at a time like this?’
‘perhaps this will be over soon and things will return to the way they were.’
‘no sudden movements! i’m watching you.’
‘keep your hands where i can see them. i don’t trust you.’
‘what do you think i could do to you? have you seen you?’
‘what? don’t i even get a kiss?’
‘a world full of people and buildings and things was all very foreign to me.’
‘don’t be foolish.’
‘i was a child.’
‘i was heartbroken.’
‘beauty and love are fleeting and have no meaning. survival has meaning. power has meaning.’
‘without those lessons i would not be here today, as difficult as they might have been.’
‘they made you stronger, didn’t they?’
‘such fantasies have no place amidst reality.’
‘everyone’s dead… or gone.’
‘thank you. that was an uncomfortable experience.’
‘i’d entertain you, but… too much effort involved.’
‘aren’t you tired of all the violence in this world?’
‘wouldn’t you like to just lay down and… forget about all this?’
‘you cannot expect me to rest on a floor sticky with blood.’
‘you deserve more. you deserve a rest. the world will go on without you.’
‘i’m not disturbing you, am i?’
‘dead? me? hah! i’ve been close many times, but i’ve never quite made it all the way.’
‘the world is never utterly at peace.’
‘you’re hiding something from me.’
‘i have given you so much and you cast it back in my face.’

i am here to tell u that howl does, in fact, seek out the inquisition on his own. not to join, but literally just to be nosy. he floats around the outskirts of haven from time to time just to see what it’s all about and to get a closer look at the breach. he heard about it way over in the emerald graves, saw it, and thought “huh. that’s new” and proceeded to walk immediately towards it. honestly leliana and her agents probably find him camping out in the frostbacks like “bro what are you doing”.
he probably acts vaguely morrigan-like almost as an “advisor” but more like that annoying backseater that hangs out in twitch chat trying to tell the steamer how to play the game. he officially “joins” after the destruction of haven and the appearance of corypheus bc let’s be honest … hearing that childhood tales of dark magisters trying to take over the world are real is life changing! just a little bit!
i giggle at the thought of people in val royeaux thinking howl is this super dangerous mage who steals the souls of young women when in reality he’s just a dramatic himbo twink wandering the streets shopping for new jewelry
