not to blorbopost but , i didnt think i could be more obsessed with odysseus, and then i discovered a tradition in ancient greek literature of depicting/using him as a symbol of the End of an Age of Herosim, and the dawn of a new age where cleverness and craftiness are valued above strength and honor. and i jussssssssst. am eating that up
#ive been reading sophocles and pindar and aeschylus fragments and shit. reading papers#theres a myth (edit: referenced in the odyssey) about aias/ajax and odysseus competing for the armor of the recently-killed achilles#and the recipient being decided by vote and odysseus winning that vote (sometimes by persuasion. sometimes by deception. sometimes unclear)#and then aias dies. i think always by suicide. sometimes after ''going mad''. sometimes after slaughtering the greek cattle in a rage#and since aias was like. the Greatest of the Greeks Next to Achilles. him dying in what they wouldve considered a dishonorable way#is like The End Of Hero's#and how that's handled and how odysseus is handled can be sooooo interesting and telling and yummy smiles#blakeposts#epicsposting#my reading#odysseus#the odyssey#does anybody check these tags..helloh
