Training a dog to heel/walk beside person on lead using a shock collar in the left frame.
Training a dog to heel/walk beside person on lead using a positive reinforcement in the right frame.
The body language displayed make it blatantly obvious which technique is better mentally overall to the dog.
Sure there could be a context in the left frame making their reactions more extreme with the shock collar "shut down". But, even if you have a dog that responds "well" to being introduced to a shock correction they are still feeling this way regardless of their physical state. They respond this way because of learnt helplessness. Nothing works other than stopping all behaviours that a dog is meant to do in fear of being shocked. This can be misinterpreted as a well behaved calm happy go lucky dog but mentally this dog is suffering even without showing signs. They take a long time to recover mentally if at all it and can be damaged for life.
Sure there are things that can go wrong with positive reinforcement training too but the mistakes are less invasive and more easier for the dog to come back from in a mental form. They essentially can recover faster.
However you decided to train your dog... i hope from this post you realise the less physically and mentally invasive is more beneficial to the animals over all wellbeing.
