Me seeing somebody on a dog vehicle group fits 4 XL crash tested crates and 8 additional intermediate or large crates in their Ford transit:

Our dogs are riding in style now. Can't say enough good things about the craftsman that built these crates for us (to Stina's specifications)!

Erm in my continued van search I am also liking the Ford Transit...mostly bc the 2020 comes in AWD from the factory which is amazing and it comes in lots of colors. It still has an ugly af front end though.

Obviously something like this would be quite awhile out...but I finally found a cargo/dog van that I like both the look and function of.
