Concept art of some of the ear markings! It includes a few eye and nose colors as well. I’m shooting for a round number of 20 marking colors right now, and am working on fleshing out the genetics and code at the moment. I want to keep the genetics as realistic as possible while allowing for variety and uniqueness in an art based game. I did indeed add blind eyes, anticipating injuries and illness being added later on. Below are some summaries of a general framework for how I have divided the colors/markings and I’d love to hear feedback/opinions!
Marking variations are divided into Pools. These pools: Scarce, Minimum, Light, Medium,and Heavy have their own variety of markings. When determining the amount of expression of a certain phenotype, the chosen pools are unique to each dog. For example, Dog A with heavy spotting may only have one marking from the heavy pool, while Dog B with heavy spotting has markings from the scarce and heavy pool, Dog C might have a marking from each pool; for an extremely heavy expression of spotting, and Dog D may have multiple markings from the heavy pool but another marking might hide it so it looks like nothing from the heavy pool (this can be either a marking from a lesser pool or the markings being partially/completely hidden).
The head, ears, and body are broken up so each have their own pool for more genetic diversity.
