As I typed the subject line above, I felt as if I was doing something naughty, confessing a secret of sorts, which means, I think, it still hasn’t sunk in that:
a) my novel will actually be published (Spring 2014)
b) a copy of it may or may not be sitting in the St. Martin’s Press office in one of the most iconic NYC buildings of all time (the Flatiron)
c) I have an editor, who I will meet in person for the first time this week
d) that editor is Elizabeth Beier, whose work I’ve admired for years, since she edits all of Tom Perrotta’s novels and TP is one of my favorite novelists, and his novel Little Children was one of the first influences on my own novel about the darkly comic, and sometimes tragic, contemporary parenting experience.
e) I bought a snakeskin belt (the woman at the boutique insisted I get the belt, which I'm pretty sure is faux snake) to match the new black dress I picked out for our first editorial lunch.
