Lyla didn’t know why she did this to herself. Even back when she was really into horror as a genre, she scared incredibly easily. Yet every Halloween she would crack open her old Stephen King novels and this October was no different. Of course, she usually read them during the day, and not at night. In the nearly abandoned library. By herself. With nearly all the lights out.

She knew that it wasn’t a good idea when she started reading just after the sun had set, but it felt like an even worse idea when she heard faint footsteps near the shelves in the back. Glancing up, she set the book down as her fingers instantly traveled to the diamond cross that hung loosely around her neck. “Hello?” She called out, looking at the clock as she stood on shaky legs. Heading towards the back, she nearly jumped out of her skin when someone stepped out of the shadows. “Oh! Oh my gosh.. you scared me.” She exhaled, heart rate slowly slightly. “I didn’t realize anyone else was still here, my apologies.”
