1/5 Re: the John Green Situation; as someone who has followed the vlogbrothers for quite a few years now, here's what I think. Both brothers have screwed up in the past, but only Hank takes responsibility for his actions. John usually dodges, excuses or (as in the case of tweeting to known sexual abuser Ed Blann) gives an insincere apology. His fame is way more than he’s ever expected, and it just keeps increasing, so he isn’t getting accustomed to it in a healthy way. Unlike his brother, who’s still very prominent in the community work (DFTBA Records, P4A, etc.),

These things aren’t bad, but he spends less and less time actively interacting with his audience as people, and more and more time interacting with them as crowds. Meanwhile, the fanbase hasn’t adjusted to this shift in the dynamics, and still seeks personal interaction with him. I believe it is this imbalance that creates a feeling of unease in so many. So, what’s the solution? I’ve never even been in the same State as John 

4/5 but here’s what I think: John needs to talk about these changes in the creator-fan dynamics. He’s done it a bit, but mostly when talking about why /he/ isn’t sharing much of his personal life (see: his wise decision to not include his daughter Alice in videos), and not enough about how fans should be careful of him. Hank has acknowledged his power. John, whose power is (potentially) significantly more dangerous, hasn’t done enough in this respect.

5/5 And just a note to end with: John’s books are (very) far from feminist, but describing them as MPDG-positive simply shows that people don’t understand that genre.

We nowadays consider it AZ. Those who practiced it clearly didn't. Like when Rambam said God has no body, and people told him he was obviously wrong, because just look at all the physical descriptions of God in the Tanakh! That was my point - the circumstances and media have changed, but people's attempts to gender God are always AZ, whether we add a feminine counterpart or not: today, it's because we're confining God to our perception of gender, limiting God to mere words and human concepts.

And to answer the inevitable question: We use words in Tfillot! We have to think *somehow*, right? Well, yes. To those who are interested, I suggest reading Yerushalmi Brachot 11, Bavli Brachot 30, and Rambam’s Hilchot Tfilla perek 9 halacha 8. And if you ask me, sometime in the future even words will be considered AZ, because human thought will have progressed enough to think beyond them. Hope this helps!

This is a very pantheist view and that would be one of our points of departure. I do believe that one can say that there are things G-d is and G-d is not, or at least things G-d tells us G-d is and is not; for example, “G-d is upright, He is my Rock, there is no wrong in Him” (Tehillim 92:16), or Avraham’s demand “Shall the Judge of the World not do Justice?!”, which clearly demonstrates that there is a set of behaviours-and-traits-which-are-fitting-to-Hashem and a set of behaviours-and-traits-which-are-not-fitting-to-Hashem. I don’t believe that description limits G-d in any meaningful sense of limitation, but that’s a gut thing I’m not yet capable of articulating.

I also believe that halacha is objective – although a plurality can exist, it must exist within certain bounds, and avodah zarah is definitively outside of these bounds.
