doodle-a-day day 24: food + triangle
🍕
Looking for prestige, New York’s masters of the fast, cheap lunch have opened a slice shop that prizes fresh mozzarella, homemade sausage and sourdough starter.
Fresh Pizza 99¢ Inc. - 38th and 6th in New York City
Jack and I were in the city running late on our way down to Webster Hall but still wanted a slice to hold us over until after the show. We ended up passing a dollar slice place on the corner of 38th and 6th and figured even if it sucked it was only a dollar. To our surprise it ended up being pretty great! The service was extremely fast (it took less than a minute to get in and out) and the food didn’t suffer. The slices were a good temperature even though they were out on the counter. The pizza had fluffy crust, a great cheese to sauce ratio, and wasn’t burnt at all. While the sauce wasn’t the best, it was blended in so that it didn’t ruin the za. The best way I can describe this pizza is like if oven pizza was actually good. Also the Jamaican beef patty rocked! Could’ve been a little hotter, but for the reasonable price of $1.75 I was lovin’ it. Definitely a worthwhile NYC dollar slice joint!
