Luca's Pizza - Harris Ave in Middlesex, NJ

So I actually ended up going to Luca's sort of by accident. I mixed the name up with a different place and found myself instead at this barn looking building...but decided to stay and try it anyway. Unfortunately, it was not great. The selection of slices was small and for the most part didn't look very appetizing, so I grabbed the only 2 I thought I might want to finish; a plain and a stuffed meat. The plain was pretty mediocre with very over-seasoned sauce. The stuffed slice was definitely the better of the two with superb crust. I even tried dipping it in the provided marinara sauce and that was pretty good too. Decent price as well, the pair was $6.42. Still, I wouldn't really recommend this spot. It's ok....but that's about it.

Pizza Brothers - Route 206 South in Hillsborough Township, NJ

Pizza Brothers is my job's go-to pizzeria when they get pies for events but I'd never actually stopped in to get a slice fresh. I finally decided to change that with the pepperoni and bacon slice. First off, I've gotta say something about the value because this slice was only $2.85! For 2 toppings that's practically unheard of in 2024. On top of that, it was good too, with plentiful toppings that all added to the flavor of the slice. The crust was the only part that didn't do much for me, but with the rest of the slice being as enjoyable as it was I can let it slide. Definitely check this spot out if you're driving down 206 and need a quick bite! The selection was kind of small though, so just keep that in mind.

Daniel's Pizzeria 9 Years Later

In 2015 I reviewed Daniel's Pizzeria shortly after their grand opening. This year I was at a house show literally across the street and decided to stop back in to see if it was as good as I remember it being....but to be honest I was a little disappointed. I got a chicken vodka slice but as you can see from the picture, the vodka was not distributed very well. Too bad, because it was tasty sauce. It was still a good enough slice, but for $4.50 I was expecting a little more. It's been a while, but I'm inclined to say they're under new management and I unfortunately probably won't be going back. There are plenty of other New Brunswick pizzerias literally down the street to visit. At least you can still get sushi while you're there!

Villa Capri II Pizza & Pasta - S Sparta Ave in Sparta, NJ

I stopped at Villa Capri with my daughter after we went to the eye doctor down the street and WOW was I blown away. Sussex County is notorious for having mediocre/bad pizza but Villa Capri proves that there are exceptions to rule. I absolutely loved the plain slice as it had the perfect blend of cheese and sauce and thin, tasty crust. The chicken bacon ranch was equally delicious (even if it looked a little weird) with another great blend of toppings and good crust. I went back more recently to try the buffalo chicken which wasn't quite as good (that bleu cheese is just too goopy) but still enjoyable. The best part of this place is the price. The two slices I got the first time were only $5.45 and the buff was $3.20 on its own. In this economy, those prices are hard to beat. I HIGHLY recommend checking this spot out if you're looking for some good Sussex pizza!

Reye's NY Style Pizza - Main Street in Lake Como, NJ

Last winter Steven and I went to see Foreign Hands at Salty's Beach Bar in Lake Como and had just enough time after the show to grab a slice from Reye's Pizza a couple doors down. Overall, we felt the slices were enjoyable but nothing really stood out to make them exceptional. I will say I liked that the sauce was light and the peps were plentiful and for only $2.75 that's hard to complain about. Worth stopping in if you go to a show and want a quick bite between sets!

P.S. Steven only gave it a three but what does he know!

Delizia Pizza Kitchen - Wootton Street in Boonton, NJ

Many moons ago I tried the Delizia in Dover and thought it was decently enjoyable. After being recommended the one in Boonton I decided to check it out and see how it compared. I've tried Boonton pizza multiple times and have never been impressed. Would Delizia be the one to finally change that? Nope, not at all. I got a very overpriced buffalo chicken slice ($4.50 for a pretty small size) that had pretty much nothing going for it. The sauce made everything about the slice wet including some very mushy chicken. The flavor was also watered down and just disappointing. I feel like everything else looked even worse though because they all looked super pasty. If it were much cheaper I might've bumped it up a point, but as is you can get better pizza for cheaper pretty much anywhere.

Master Pizza Revisited After A Decade

I tried Master Pizza close to a decade ago and was severely disappointed. Recently I went to visit my grandma who lives in Clifton and she requested a pie from here for dinner....and I obviously can't say no to my grandma. Luckily, it was a little better this time, though still not great. The sauce was over-seasoned and the cheese was not stretchy at all. But it was good enough to eat a few slices and not feel awful afterwards. I guess my recommendation if you find yourself here is get a pie instead of slices? I would still find somewhere else though personally.

Roma Pizzeria - North Ave in Garwood, NJ

I was in Garwood for the Folly show at Crossroads and had planned ahead to check out Roma Pizza in the shopping plaza next door for dinner. It may look pretty typical from the outside but WOW was the pizza good! So good that I actually came back mid show for the pepperoni slice above! This place checks all the boxes for me: cheesy, watery sauce, just the right blend of crispy and chewy crust, plentiful toppings....a perfect example of Jersey pizza. And not that pricey! The plain was $2.73 and the pep $3. Check. It. Out. You will not be disappointed.

Casano's Pizza Parlor - Highland Cross in Rutherford, NJ

Casano's is a new pizzeria that's been getting a lot of hype online to the point of selling out of pizza daily. While I still haven't tried it myself, Paul went recently and had this to say:
