I just think that the word "fat" can be triggering to a lot of people, hence why not everyone is comfortable calling themselves that. As a kid, I was called fat so relentlessly and cruelly, it took a LONG time for me to be okay with calling myself that.
I understand if it’s a “trigger” and it should go without me saying that I’m excluding people like that, but the people I’m referring to are, for example, people who have no issues throwing the word “fat” around to refer to their cat or different animals but suddenly when it applies to them it’s a bad word. Or those people who say “I’m not fat I’m such and such” (because if it was a “trigger” word, they probably wouldn’t joke like that). Or even people who go up to you/fat people when they call themselves fat, even in a positive manner and say YOU ARE NOT FAT. YOU’RE GORGEOUS. like the two are exclusive.
