Nico

Name: Nico (short for Nicolaus)

Sculpt: Miyadoll Baby Mocha Bluebell (cream white)

Arrived: 8 October 2018

Provenance: Purchased on Miyadoll website

Nico is very interested in the natural world and likes animals, birds and insects of all types.  If there’s a strange animal in the classroom, it’s quite possible that either Nico brought it in, or it followed him.  He’s also a tender-hearted little tike: when he found out what his favourite Japanese hamburgers were made of, he cried and refused to eat them for months, until his mother persuaded him that they came from “happy cows who didn’t feel pain when they died.”(Shh... he hasn’t realised what his new, leather, shoes are made of, yet. ^_^;)  (*based on a true story from my childhood XD;;)

Nico’s image colours are light blue and lemon yellow.  He’s good friends with his kindergarten classmate Peter, who is always eager to drag bring him along on new adventures.  Nico isn’t terribly keen on adventures, but neither does he want Peter to find more trouble than he has to (or for trouble to find him), so he usually tags along to try and hold him back from his more risky endeavours... (like the one time they saw a suspicious man outside the kindergarten gates and Peter decided that it was a good idea to tail him back to his supposed “hideout” instead of telling a teacher....O:)  They do make a good team: Peter is a dreamer and trail-blazer at heart, whilst Nico provides a well-advised dose of caution and self-preservation. XD

My thoughts: I’d been thinking for a while that Peter, my Volks Yo-SD Puff, needed another little boy to be his adventuring buddy. My two other Yo-SDs are little girls, and not really the adventurous type.  So I looked and looked but nothing felt “right”, until I saw that Miyadoll was offering her Bluebell sculpt (which I had liked on first sight, months before) with a Baby Mocha body option, for a limited time.  ^^  As with all my Yo-SD purchases thus far, I decided to buy pretty much on impulse.  

By the by, Nico is my first white-skinned doll; my first full doll who is non-Volks; and also my first double-jointed doll, and I have to say that I’m enjoying him very much. ^-^  I was apprehensive at first since I couldn’t find any reviews of the Baby Mocha, and very few of Miyadoll in general (I have a semi-review of the Baby Mocha body here, if you’re interested).  It’s been fun playing with the double joints - it reminds me of when I received my very first doll, an oldskin Volks MSD Hewitt, in 2004, and first began learning to pose him. ^-^  Good times!

name/柊Shu model/CROBI E Line BrokenTori milkwhite limited birthday/2017.10.1 eye/瞳屋製14mm meeting/DollismPlusTokyo2017 ドリズム限定で白Toriヘッドが来ると聞いて、買えたらいいなーと朝から整理券を頂き並んで購入。45番の整理券でまさかのギロチンが38番でほぼ先頭で入場して、1番の札でやってきた子。DOLKのスタッフさんにも「Toriくんですね？(笑)」と言われるくらいにはToriの人でした。当初はメイクがBrokenで馴染まないならgeneralメイクをしてもらうために里帰りしたらいいかーと思っていたが、意外と馴染んだのでこのまま。双子の関係を崩さずに入れるため、良のドッペルゲンガーみたいな存在。世界軸の違うところにいる同じ子。Tori三体合わせて秀優良と等級なんだけど、双子ではない、ということで漢字は変更しました。 memo/良と同じようで違う子。うちにふらっと異次元からやってきたちょっとたち位置が難しいところ。うちのTori三体のなかで一番気弱で一番おとなしい。まだお兄ちゃんたちがこわい(笑)これからどうやって関係を作っていくか、楽しみな子です。

Sui

Name: Sui (翠) (short for...?)

Sculpt: Volks Yo-SD Kanon 1st ver.

Arrived: June 2008

Provenance: Purchased un-used from Ayase on Den of Angels

One of Laurie and Peter’s classmates in Small Wonder’s kindergarten division and a thoughtful girl who keep her words to a minimum.  She tends to be very cautious around strangers, and will keep her distance and quietly assess someone she’s meeting for the first time, before slowly deciding whether to get more comfortable around them.  (She hasn’t met most of the MSD’s yet, so I’m not sure what she thinks of them....)  She lets her guard down and gets a bit dorky when presented with her favorite thing (books), though. XD;

Besides books, Sui likes her family, Laurie and mildly-sweet tidbits like Japanese wagashi, rather than anything too sugary or rich.   Her image colour is dusty purple/ lavender and she usually wears her hair in a (slightly messy) ponytail.

My thoughts: I recall going through a drawn-out period of name-less-ness with regard to Noel (my MSD Enn), too, but nothing like what this little one has had to experience. XD  I guess that’s what happens when you wait ten years to “bond” with a doll and find her her name...   She has been a difficult one to pin down, and not just name-wise.  I honestly expected a sweet princess in lace and frills, and instead I got a serious little thinker with a messy ponytail...!! @_@  But I can’t complain, since I’m glad she’s finally filling out as a character.  :) 

By the by, one of my other hobbies besides dolls is book-binding, and I intend to make her a little hardcover book modelled on an old, cloth-bound copy of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales which entertained me as a child.  I also want to make her a little detective’s outfit, I think she would look super cute in it!

Tatsue

Name: Hisagi Tatsue

Sculpt: Volks SDC Ren, on an MSD boy body

Arrived: August 2006

Provenance: Purchased online from Volks in May 2006.  

Tatsue is fourth generation Japanese of Scandinavian ethnic descent.  His great-grandfather settled in Japan with his wife in order to devote himself to the Japanese art he loved, and was eventually adopted into his teacher/ master’s family (in Small Wonder’s world, it was difficult to obtain citizenship in those days by any other means).  Despite being an anomaly in the field, the family has worked hard and made a name for itself, something of which the current 3rd-generation patriarch is fiercely proud. Unfortunately for Tatsue, he has an eye disorder which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to continue in the family tradition, which is as disappointing to him as it is to his father.  He’s a sweet-natured and gentle child who really wishes he could better live up to his family’s expectations.   When he first comes to Small Wonder, he rarely meets people’s eyes, even in conversation, as he’s very self-conscious about his odd-looking eyes, so it’s hard for him to make friends, at first.  Gradually, Noel notices his disability and begins to befriend him and draw him into the wider community, which helps him to grow as a person and begin experimenting with new forms of art. Tatsue likes traditional arts and crafts, especially tactile items like pottery, and is nervous in poorly-lit places, where he can be virtually blind.  

My thoughts: As you can tell, my dolls’ back-stories just became more and more fantastical with Noel, and then Tatsue. XD; But fret not, for we’re in Yo-SD territory from here on, and my Yo-SD’s have personalities but no real backstories (as yet).  Tatsue truly took me by surprise, since I wasn’t attracted to the default “image” of SDC Ren at all, sweet though she is.  I still can’t remember where or how the idea of putting Ren on an MSD boy body came to me. @_@  But I’m glad it was a good fit!  The delicacy and refinement of the Ren sculpt (compared to my other MSD’s) has definitely fed into Tatsue’s eventual character design. ^-^

Mitchell

Name: Mitchell “Micchi”

Sculpt: Volks FCS MSD F-10, normal-legged body.  Nose sanded very slightly; neck and neck aperture slightly modded to improve poseability.

Arrived: October 2004

Provenance: Ordered from Volks via Domuya in August 2004

Micchi becomes Shiina’s roommate after summer break and immediately makes it his goal to teach Shiina the important life skill of Having Fun. XD  He is many things Shiina is not - extroverted, playful, talkative, well-socialised.  From Shiina’s beleagured point of view, he seems to have a perpetual party going in their dorm room (or as much of a party as a twelve year old can orchestrate, anyway). Although his carefree attitude makes him seem like a typical hyperactive pre-teen, Micchi is also surprisingly smart.  He breezes through his homework, especially math and science, when no one is looking.  His parents are researchers and he's the youngest of four kids (all geniuses D:).  He is weak against tickles and likes orange, yellow, blue-green, collecting a variety of toys and accessories, and how easy Shiina is to wind up. XD

My thoughts: I was sad when I found out that Volks had discontinued the F-10 sculpt - it’s so full of character and so photogenic!  F-10′s are some of my favourite dolls to just look at. ^-^  It’s sad to think that there won’t be any new ones from here on.  Personality-wise... if Shiina reflects something of who I was in 2004, perhaps Micchi reflects who I wished I could be. :-)

meeting/I・Doll Tokyo49　Migidollブースにて。良の里帰りを検討していて、幼以下のサイズをもう一体増やそうと考えていて、実は違う子に飛ぶ予定がこの子に一目惚れをして購入。この子のほうが私好みだったが正解。幼サイズが並ぶ中で、小さいのにすらっとしてずいぶんと余裕顔の男の子がいるな、が第一印象。下がり眉なのに口角あがっててにこっとしてるのはツボだった。口角の上がり具合もちょうどいい感じ。一つ問題なのは服難民の恐れ。ぼちぼち探したいところ。名前の由来は、良にすごく似た感じの子で、また良と同じく一目惚れして買った子なので、平野沼の入り口の成実から。あれはしげちゃんですが、うちはなるちゃんです。

memo/うちの末っ子。お兄ちゃんお姉ちゃんを尊敬してて、まっすぐな子。きらきらした瞳で兄姉の話をする。見た目は3歳児だけど中身は結構大人かもしれない。一人称はぼく。あのねあのね！って目を輝かせて来たら要注意(笑)

LK-23(えるけーにーさん/KDF LITCHI)

お迎え　2017年1月5日 LutsのSteel Heart bodyにときめいてポチってしまった美少年。 Brown Skinにボディメイクをしています。 調子乗ってボディメイクを頼みましたが、ちょっとでも動かすと剥げます。 ガシガシ動かしたい派の私はしないほうがいいようです……。 また、ヘッドはLITCHIなので公式サイトだと女の子になっているのですが、 メイクをKAFIERのものにしてもらっています。 これを基本メイクの料金のまましていただけるんだから、Lutsさん優しい。 そしてとにかく美しい。ほんとLutsの虜です……。 以下、妄想たっぷりの設定。 ボディのこともあり、人造人間という設定です。 そのため、LK-23は個体識別番号。 いつか愛称として人のような名前を得られるといいな、と思っています。 最初は人間としての名前もつけようと思ったのですが、浮かびませんでした。 だからきっと、まだ彼は造られたばかりの子で、これから少しずつ人になっていこうとしているのかな、とか思っています。

VZ(ヴィゼット/SD リゲル)

お迎え　2016年4月3日 VZの読み方はヴィゼットでもヴイゼットでも。 VはVincent、Zはzeroとも終わりの意とも。2文字の本当の意味は誰も知らない。 ミステリアスな少年です。 真紘くんとはいまのところ仲良し。 アイをイレーネお迎え時に追加購入した造形村の青系グラスアイに、ウィッグをLuts製のものに変更をしています。 リゲルデフォウィッグはすごく好きな色だけれども、あれだとどうしても”リゲル”で、店頭にいる子と同じ、というイメージが強かったので思い切って変えてしまいました。 お迎えに至るまでの経緯はそのうち描こうかと思います。
