How would Derek react if MC were his same species? Would he be even more possessive in the water, not letting her get close to other dolphins? And what would happen if MC ended up pregnant?

If MC were the same species as him, he'd be EXTREMELY possessive. It would grant him more control over them than a trainer MC since now they physically can't leave him.

He wouldn't let other dolphins get near them. Captive dolphins are much more aggressive, so the chances they may injure mc is very high. Congratulations, Derek will kill for you if needed (though he could also be protective of Trainer MC the same way if he suspects the other dolphins are getting too "touchy". (too lazy for new doodle but this is how he'll be with a mermaid mc)

If MC got pregnant, there's many ways this could go. Unlike normal Derek, there's like, "less" responsibilities in raising a calf. HOWEVER, he's perpetually bored, so he wouldn't be too mad at the idea. if he really don't want the kid, he'll simply eat it after birth (/hj). there is a chance that Mr. Goffard might transfer the baby calf and the mother(you) to other aquariums if the other dolphins get aggressive....

That is EXACTLY why I chose dolphin merman for Derek, lol. They can (try) to get frisky with humans but we'd still love and forgive them cause that's something they do when humans interfere with their lives too much since this isn't supposed to be normal behavior. Real dolphins haven't been successful in actually raping humans, the closest thing I found was someone harassing a dolphin which resulted in the dolphin fighting back...

In my opinion, Derek's life reminds me of the marine animals in captivity that slowly go insane in a small space, having to do tricks for people everyday and then get put back in small metal containers for the night... I mean, normal Derek always has to play nice in parties, be the face of the Goffard family, having to be "charismatic and nice" to the public, getting mistreated by his father, having extreme sexual aggressive behavior, being stressed, and being "good looking" over all (a bit of a stretch but dolphins are adorable, and Derek has boyish charm and good looks lol). If Derek were ANY other type of mammal, let's say a dog, he'd be put down SO FAST.

Anyways, I recommend watching Blackfish if you want to understand what I mean by this whole dolphin captivity thing but it is NOT for the faint of heart 🤧
