‘I — I WISH I could…’ he trails his words off, lost in thought. At times he wouldn’t wish for it different, there was no going back after all, but once you’d LOST a child, once you’d suffered such a great loss — there was no way you wouldn’t want to change it. He’d give anything and everything that he had now just to go back and SAVE Luke. He’d give his life.
He never was big on self preservation, yet after he’d lost his child he wanted NOTHING more to survive. He wallowed, of course he did, who wouldn’t? He’d never felt a pain like it, even when he lost his wife. He knew the AGONY of grief even before the new world tore up his old one, but losing a child was like losing a part of yourself; a better part. After that, after he got through it, he vowed never to stop trying again. If he SURVIVED then some part of Luke did, too. That’s what he told himself.
Still, some days he’d stop and get lost in thought in a cyclone of what ifs. His mind was PLAGUED by scenarios of what could have been and he’d wish just once, just one thing — he wished he could bring him back, ‘doesn’t matter what I wish, or what you wish — it’s not happening. you’re right, you can’t CHANGE the past.’ Oh, but if he could…
‘I know. I do too.’ she knows more than anything that someone saying ‘me too’ wasn’t going to make him feel better, but she doesn’t know how else to make things BETTER. Maybe there was nothing she could do, but she didn’t want to believe that. She can tell he’s deep in thought just by looking at him, the demons of his past secretly trying to swallow him whole. usually people couldn’t see it happening, but when it’s happening to you as well things are different.
‘She knew they were fighting different battles with different demons, but just because they had gone through different things didn’t mean that it didn’t have a similar IMPACT on them. A nightmare’s still a nightmare when no one else thinks it’s scary. She had no idea what was going on in his head, but she knew it was taking it’s toll on him.
‘She pauses after he speaks, a gentle ( but weak ) smile forming on her face. ‘Just don’t be too hard on yourself. Whatever it is.. It’s out of your control.’ She knew that maybe what she was saying wasn’t the most helpful or comforting thing, but she was trying. ‘You’re already fighting your demons, don’t need to fight yourself as well.’ Funnily enough this was all advice that Ferris needed to take as well. If only she’d start listening to herself.

the long, winding road was at it’s close - and it was always going to end this way. addy would rather crash and burn with the suicidal asshole she found in an alleyway in the pouring rain than have not met him. to not have experienced any of this. the rise and fall of the new bonnie and clyde who didn’t give a fuck about the world around them. as far as they were concerned, they were each other’s world. her orbs glance over to dom, fingers lacing with his as they hear the sirens. suicide wasn’t an option anymore. from this cliff it looks like the end of the world, the end of their world. yet there’s a smile on addy’s lips, her body turning to face the supposed lost cause. ❛ it’s like when we first met, y’know? ❜ addy inquired with a tilt of her head, and there’s a small noise that can be misconstrued for a chuckle. his arm wrapping around her, pulling her close as his lips press against the top of her head. the redhead’s terrified, but dom’s there. she won’t go alone. they both knew this wasn’t a story with a happy ending, try as they might to delude themselves. maybe that’s why they were so absorbed in each other, because in the back of their minds - they knew the truth. her fate was sign and sealed with his the moment she grabbed his hand in the alleyway and refused to let go, when she led him back to her apartment. the siren’s are getting louder, and addy’s eyes meet dom’s brown ones and she can’t tear them away no matter how hard she tries. their last kiss is one of passion, one distinctly lacking regret or remorse for what they’d done, for what transpired. ❛ babe, thanks… for saving me. ❜ ❛ you saved me too. ❜ he glances to the side, seeing the blurring lights of blue and red - the end of the line, they were going together. they wouldn’t leave each other behind when they went into the dark. truth be told, the only thing dom wished for with addy was more time. there was never enough time. maybe in another life, the all maker will be kinder to them, give them a better life. when they step out in front of the car, they can hear the cars stopping. weapons at the ready, and addy’s eyes glance up to dom. his hand grips her’s harder, he’s not leaving her. they were together until the very end. it’s not like they expected their crime spree to end in happiness. they were considered armed and dangerous, with the priority of them being stopped rather than them living to tell the tale. which is why the gunshots didn’t surprise her, though the sound did. her body dropping onto the dirt road. dom’s however stood, and everything felt like it was going in slow motion. like a scene out of a bad movie. she could hear shouting, muted as her world turned to black. the only comfort was that she wouldn’t be alone… she wasn’t alone anymore. dom however was, by some miracle he was alive. just like that, the person who worked so hard to save him was killed because of him. and he was alone. again.
