Synopsis:
Colson's jacket wrapped around him like a cloud of smoke its scents blended into his own and finally he smelt home.
Then they ran.
Down the pathway, over the barriers, and through the crowd that split; a hallway just for them. They kept running though. Way past the cameras and the cars and the dimly lit streets of shops long closed.
Work Text:
They ran until roads turned from grey dust to blades of wet grass spilled mud onto their shoes.
And somewhere along that track their hands had clasped together. Knuckles glew white their grip only tightening when Dom's foot tumbled over the pothole. They held on until rain turned to a sprinkle and then trickled to nothing at all.
That’s when they finally stopped running.
Colson’s face looked up at the sky, and Dom looked at the way it glowed under the moonlight.
He didn’t dare let his eyes drift down as he took in the way the rapper lit his cigarette. Front left pocket, two shakes, a flick of a thumb opening the top with the Newport sign.
This was when he shifted his gaze from the blanket of stars and onto the pack of smokes in his hand, lifting it up and using the thumb to guide one up to his lips. The other tightened their hold on Dom’s hand for a moment longer before letting it fall from his grip.
Dom’s eyes fell then too, head dipping down as he tried to breathe in the fleeting scent of the jacket and the moments before that suddenly felt ephemeral at best.
Dom barely registered the click click and the sound of the flame coming to life, only looking up in time to see colson breathe out a cloud of smoke and close his eyes to the stars.
He looked like an angel then. head turned to the stars, golden hair shone against the night, moonlight turned smoke clouds blue and folded them into wings for only moments before they vanished yet again.
Inches away he could almost taste him. The liquor on his lips and the cologne against his neck that had faded with droplets of rain and sweat which only made his shirt cling tighter against his body and his skin glow in the dim light.
He fought his urge to keep looking.
“the moon looks lovely tonight”
His eyes were still closed.
He wished he said more.
And the same words echoed in the younger man’s head.
“Can I kiss you?”
Colson's gaze shifted down from the skies and finally met Dom’s own. Eyes closed shut, he had drifted, disappearing into his thoughts all fogging up into clouds of Dom that for just an instant he forgot he was standing right there beside him.
And he had asked if he could kiss him. Or had he just imagined that?
“What?” he spoke so lightly, words barely touching the night air and he held his breathe as he prayed he’d heard right.
“ca- it doesn’t- I’m sorry” Dom mustered up and chuckled expressionlessly at the ground.
Of course it mattered. And sorry was a stupid thing to say. It was a little better than repeating his previous words which would have been the more foolish route since Colson had obviously given him an easy out.
He wished that he could’ve just shut the fuck up and let his mind think things through for once without letting his emotions spill over.
Dom was surprised, to say the least when he felt the ground shift between the two and dirty chuck taylors edged closer with each step.
It was only a matter of time before slender fingers brushed over his cheekbones and soon a gentle hand combed away clumps of blue hair and red from his face still damp from the rain. The metal rings landed burning against his skin when Colson traced his thumb along his jawline and finally looked up into the icy blues of the man before him.
He took in his last puff of smoke, cigarette bud burning to a finish somewhere in the space between them. But neither cared much about that as Dom’s lip grazed over Colson sucking the smoke out from his lips before watching it disappear into the night air as he breathed out.
“so what did you say before”
The sudden rush of confidence left him all too soon and Dom was nervous all over again.
“what do you mean?”
he breathed in only Colson
“you know, the thing, that you overcorrected”
“I didn’t overcorrect anything”
“I actually believe you did”
They spoke in only whispers now so that even in the empty field not even the trees would hear their midnight mumbles.
They breathed the same breath, faces so close their noses touched and with stardust in their eyes they took each other in. and it was then Dom felt ready to repeat those words again.
“Can I kiss you?”
“See I thought you said that the first time”
“fuck off”, Colson couldn’t help his smirk from turning into a smile. Or at least he hoped it was a smile and didn’t look like the giggly grin of a girl on her first date because if he could describe what he was feeling inside that about explained it.
He wondered if Dom could hear his heartbeat. Or feel it radiating from the palm of his hand onto the curve of his jaw or a sharp sizzling to the soft stubble against his cheek. Colson was just moments away from kissing Dom when his stubbornness inevitably took the best of him.
He had asked if he could kiss Colson.
He would wait.
At least that’s what he told himself as he let his thumb retrace their steps over the younger man’s face. His touch lingered when he reached his lips seconds longer before letting his finger slip inside.
A moment was all I took, merely, a few glances . And then Dom was moving a final step closer and pushing his finger two knuckles deeper. He could only let out a shaky breath and watch as the smirk found itself on the lips of the boy below him.
lips wrapped around Colson’s thumb pushing up from the base and licking up to the top knuckle and biting down, hard.
He only had time to let out a wince before a warm tongue circled around the bite mark smoothing over the pain.
His brain was clouded, again, with the thoughts of this boy, except this time he let himself imagine the things he wanted to do to him. Time seemed to go by both too slowly and all too fast, minutes turned into hours and into barely split seconds all at once. He only half hoped his friend didn’t notice how hard he was for him already.
Dom let the finger fall from his lips with a pop and pretended not to notice the string of spit that connected the two, but he remembered the way it made Colson gaze down at it with his mouth ajar.
Pushing up on his toes, Dom closed the remaining distance between the two.
and he tasted just like heaven.
