Where I stand on perfection
Perfect. It’s a big word.
There are multiple definitions, but the gist of it is being free from as much fault, error or inconsistency as it is possible to be. If you break down the word parts, it originates from a Latin term meaning “to finish or bring to completion.”
Strangely, the English language has never formally adopted the condition of “perfect” as a state without blemish or fault that is almost totally impossible to attain, but sees it acceptable to pair it with comparison words like more, almost, nearly, and rather. Regardless of word origins, though, I really just don’t like this word.
Every time I say or think perfect, things become no longer perfect. It’s like when you’re driving and you’re hitting every light green, but then you notice and the streak is broken as the next signal turns red at your approach. It seems to me that ego is the answer to the unspoken question of “why?”
It comes down to me vs. we. Me wants every light to turn green so the destination can be arrived at sooner for personal benefit. We relaxes into the journey and knows that even if some lights turn red, the destination will be arrived at on time because the universe works. The lights aren’t turning green just for you, but you will have a pleasant trip because you believe things will work out in the end. This is getting into Law of Attraction territory, too. It’s understandable if you aren’t used to practicing manifestation through thought that you may discount this as fanciful, metaphysical theory. To you I say the same I always say: just try it. You’ve got nothing to lose except your negative ass thoughts.
Above all, stop trying to prove perfection to everyone. Social media makes it really easy to forget (quickly) that life isn’t a contest to get the most “likes” for just living your life. Or, the life you want everyone to think you have. The only person who can truly approve or disapprove of your life with any reaction or consequence is you. I know, self responsibility: It’s terrifying. But it grows you. And it’s necessary. As long as you know for sure you are trying your best, there’s nothing to worry about. That being said; I am a firm believer in doing you, and that also means being easy on yourself when you need to take a break from trying. My point is, do what you gotta do and don’t give a f*ck, and absolutely don’t apologize for it. You are home to a life. Cultivate it with love.
