For anyone who doesn’t follow me on Twitter: I spent the month of July Camp Nano-ing my next novel (working title DonCha). My goal was 50k, total wordcount 61,456.

Summary:

Devante Miller has a plan. Finish grad school in library science, find a job as a school librarian, maintain his relationships with The Friend Group, and figure out what’s going on with the unspoken tension between him and Preeda Chanthara, his best friend. Everything’s on track.

Until Charlie, one member of The Friend Group, brings his new next-door neighbor, Michael Lopez, to drinks one Saturday. Michael is a competitive figure skater, a rising star in the sport, openly bisexual, and, as Devante can’t help but realize like a blow to the head, very attractive.

Meeting Michael turns Devante’s world upside down. As they grow closer, and Devante tries to figure out what his instant, undeniable attraction to Michael means for them both, he has to readjust his plan. Luckily, that’s something Devante’s quite good at.

I’m sposda post the last-written line of my WIP and tag as many people as there are words, according to the instructions, but Rae didn’t follow that, so I’m not gonna either. So here’s the few paragraphs of chapter six that I have written:

It became a thing.

Devante could have written off Michael running into him on Monday as a fluke, just two people in the same neighborhood running into each other. When Michael bumped into him after his shift on Friday, that, too, could have been a coincidence. Devante’s end times on Mondays and Fridays were different, one p.m. and noon respectively, but they were close enough that Michael’s usual run time could have overlapped with both of them. It was possible.

But the odds of Michael’s running pace varying so little that he was at the door of the Brighton library again both times the next week seemed slim to Devante.
