The Donestre are lion-headed humanoids from medieval European mythology. Though said to be highly intelligent - they are able to speak any language - their actions are often perplexing.
Most tales state that a Donestre will befriend a traveller, only to set upon them, devouring all but their head. Once the deed is done, the Donestre will show deep remorse, sitting by the severed head and mourning.

The Donestre was said to have been seen by Alexander the Great and it is said that it can speak any language and befriends travelers before devouring them. The Donestre is said to only keep the head of its victim and cry over it.
