Alan Licht All-Stars perform on intonarumori for Performa biennial October 27, 7pm
The intonarumor were Italian Futurist Luigi Russolo’s noise instruments, lost after WWI but reconstructed by scholar and composer Luciano Chessa in the 00s. Text of Light performed with the intonarumori in 2009 and I’m delighted to be working with these machines again. Generally people use them as substitutes for normal western classical instruments, and compose pieces for them accordingly, in tandem with regular instrumentation, but I am taking a different tack and have devised a piece for improvised short duos, culminating in a group improvisation for 6 players, spread among the 16 intoners. I’ll be performing the piece live with a great cast of performers--Don Fleming, Steve Gunn, Georgia Hubley, Ka Baird, and Spencer Yeh. The live link is here. A previous performance with Seth Cluett, MV Carbon, Laura Ortman, J.G. Thirlwell, and Keith Fullerton Whitman was streamed on October 20, when that’s archived on Performa’s site I’ll post it here.
